Dura Ace for the rear of an MTB.....(13 posts)

Dura Ace for the rear of an MTB.....10kman
Apr 11, 2003 11:17 AM
Okay, project new bike is well underway. I am thinking of going with Attack shifters, with a Dura Ace rear (short cage). I'm using a roadie cassette in the back, without a big ring up front, so the short cage will be fine.

Anyone have weights for the attack shifters, shortie style, along with a dura ace rear der, short cage? are the rockets lighter??

can't get to weightweenie site, it's timing out right now......

Thanks,

10kman

the DA rear derailleur weighs 195g.SRP has an AL-tuning kit which brings the weight down to 186g.DA works great!

get also a DA 12-27 cassette: 180g

DA on my bike...
hey nino, why you don't use Avid rollamajic with DA derailleur?palmix

mine is 3 years old now and got lots of muddy riding over here in switzerland.the mech is shorter so less leverage that can cause miss-shifts and also less likely to get hooked in tress etc. and in case of a crash.as said it`s XTR quality at lighter weight.it takes max. 27 teeth on the cassette though!

so you need strong legs or you can compensate that higher low gear with a 20t granny ring up front.that`s what i did.that way the lowest gear is 20/27 which is equal to 22/30.for me that`s low enough.

the 20t granny (-5g) and short DA derailleur also allows for a shorter chain...-20g.
compared to XTR ( again )....Moron

how about the gearing compared to 24/32?
thanks
24/32=20/26.6(round up to 27)& 24/32=22/29.3(round dn to 29).nmColorider

no-the short cage doesn`t take 30t on the cassette.maybe 28t ?
anyway- with a 20t up front a 27t on the cassette should be low enough.
curious
