| Wow..the NRS 4.5" rockers arrived today plus some answers.. | Duckman Apr 11, 2003 3:38 PM | | ...from all the multi Q's from below...plus some general taunting from finally getting to ride again(rained for 2 days and had a high of 40* yesterday). Been riiiiiiiding today.
I loosened the tiny allen on the lockout lever and flipped it over. Then slid 2 overlapped cut sections of a drink straw and glued a piece of closed cell foam in the top for a .5" longer arm and then put this safety tape on it for fast looks if needed. I know, but i have way too much time on my hands sometimes. Works great until i get my remote lever kit for it.
My bike waiting patiently for me to quit scewing around and put the camera up. fun ride today!
Front lockout
Then! when i got home theres a package! Looooove new stuff! My rocker arms came way sooner then i figured. Good deal. 68*..sunshine..good ride..and new sh@t to play with. would have to have beer and women to have much more fun then this..eh?:)
Not bad at all(ya always worry about this kinda sales sometimes). Came in 3 days. Nice bubble pack and both individually wrapped in light foam padding.
Whew'...
lets see..no the fox fork doesn't feel like it weighs the front at all. On the contrary..it feels lighter then it looks upon riding it. LOVE the Vanilla R. You want a badass fork, well it or most any other fox is your baby.
The NRS with the Fox and the std rear is fine really(how balanced is a hardtail with a fox?..no worries). But, depends on what you want also. figure theses new rockers will indeed compliment the front. And!!..the old black ones i think will look badass on the blue and silver bike...eh?:)
TM, no on the L size. The M fits me better then the L does. I have to get off the seat to climb very steep stuff even when i want to stay seated. Don't wanna slide the seat up any further cause of my crank to seat sizing, but may still.
Other Q...amazing as it sounds..i don't have a recent pic of the new crank stuff on the black bike. Only whole bike pics. This pic is a few months ago. The only thing diff is the swapping of blue alloy big ringwear for the ti bolts in this pic. Matched the ti/blue crankbolts rather nicely. This ti 22t will be swapped for a black alloy 20t to go with the already installed 11-27 durace for some pisgah action. Just need to get around to it is all as the 20t's in hand.

| Thanks... now a ride report on the rockers | FreakRider Apr 11, 2003 4:15 PM | | Thanks for all the info Duckman, looking forward to hearing how things go with your ride and the new rockers. You must really ditg the ride of the NRS to have two of them. Cool. |
| Weighed the new rockers at 212gms or 7.5oz for the pair | Duckman Apr 11, 2003 4:39 PM | | ..with bearing installed. Will weigh the stock set as such. Bet they end up weighing about and ounce more..or 28ish grams. God i'm hopeless. Your welcome on the thansk. Just having fun is all. Life is indeed too damn short sometimes..eh? Pity most never wakeup and taste the adventure thats still to be had, if one still looks hard enough. Oh well.

| Thanks for your details | Trevor! Apr 11, 2003 6:45 PM | | Thanks Duckman for your answers and mini review of the rocker etc.
Bike sure is looking fine.
Cheers
(Oh and note the name change) |
| Name change so noted | Duckman Apr 11, 2003 7:32 PM | | Oh, the L descends better which is because of the 1" longer wheelbase mostly, which contributes to the stability. The M climbs better and is better in tight singletrack. More twitchy at speed tho, especially with now that its back to an 80mm front end. Gotta stay back behind the seat more when on fast descents. The L is jsut the op. Slightly back is fine on rough fast descents, but i have to climb way more forward from the seat on very steep pitches. Enough where it feels awkward sometimes. Doesn't happen much, but its tougher at those times when you cannot slip the rear tire one time or you'll lose everything and end up walking maybe cause its just too hard to get started again at that angle. Sorta like a larger and always moving target being that perfect spot of ones weight distribution in a given cockpit at a given point of a climb thats dynamics are constantly changing in small or large degrees.
Now, i have those rockers already installed. They look nice. Sorta like all business. My RD cable is "ok"...um...i think, but it needs an 1" longer housing at this location now before i really ride it for real short of missing around here at the house. Figure the blue bikes ride is still newish regarding the a few big addons lately. Climbs like a goat now, and spins up fast. Nothing like power to weight ratio.
Cheers to you too

| Hey Duck where did you get the rockers and how much... | malcolm Apr 11, 2003 7:50 PM | | look promising and will be a better balance as you said for the front with 100mm fork. I wonder how it will effect the pedalling though and bobbing??
Thanks for the nice comments on my NRS and yours are looking really awesome to.- you need to get the RS lokout for the sid if you are getting the fox lokout for rear.-will add a wee bit of weight though.

| The exact weight gain is... | Duckman Apr 11, 2003 8:21 PM | | ...1.5oz. when compared side by side w/ the stock arms on my trusty 5lb postal scale. The old black ones are at any moment now, going on the silver/blue bike. Figure why not. All the other components are black. Can't dance either.:) The black bike until it know different..say like the ride characteristics all of a sudden suck. I don't think thats gonna be the case tho. At least with the setup its being combines into, meaning the stronger frame, my weight distrub. needs concerning front to back, and the vanilla front.
Yes, the bobbing to me is the Q. Figure with the added leverage, the recommended 10-20psi over ones body weight makes since for the ride i was getting before. That being with the stock arms, was at body weight +, and higher - at 120ish. I weigh as of tonight, 155lbs. Much more compliant at those settings. Now will run 170ish +, 130 -, and bump my rebound up abit to compensate with the higher springrates. Yes, i plan on installing the RS remote for the sid as well. Still trying to recover from paying top dollar for the new sid team. Much stiffer then the older sid i've used. More like my Duke sorta. Thats a good thing. The ride itself is the same tho. Abit harsh, and ramps up fast. But, i bought it to be exactly what its designed for, nothing more and nothing less. Kinda like my CR125 was. fast, abit urgent sorta, high strung, demanding finese, but done properly, it can cover some ground fast, etc. The black bikes is like my YZ250. Pretty much can do anything and everything, and treat its rider good for long days in the saddle like in pisgah NC. Still in the low 26lb range with avids and a vanilla..AND has 4.5" in the back now.
Heres the link. They look good, for what thats worth. He only has 50.

If your bike explodes, don't call me of course. Doubt thats gonna happen tho.
Cheers!(when in Rome:)

| Tah daaaaahhh!!. Pics with the new rockers installed | Duckman Apr 11, 2003 7:52 PM | | "Be the first kid on the block, new from Remco, its rock'm sock'm robots..."..um...er...oh, sorry. Flashbacks.
Can't wait to try it out. Looks about the way it should. .25-.3" taller. Should help with climbing. Could maybe get crazy and change the front to 5". Now that would be a hoot it being an nrs and all. Bet its one of the 1st in the country. Now thats cool.
That cooler gets in on all the action, i've just noticed. |
