God why does every carbon bar maker apply a clearcoat WHICH.DeeEight

increases the actual outside diameter of the bar past 7/8" ?!? Don't they realize that all the grips, levers, shifter clamps are designed for 7/8" O.D. bars and most high end ones have that much excess clamp opening capability as they're usually precision machined to a specific size (like my Technogens). Just once it'd be nice if a carbon bar maker took the clearcoat thickness into account when designing the damn bar.

I had to use grease to get a set of Kooka levers on a Easton 90 recently. Also the clear coat tends to scratch very easily and with the monkey lites it is hard to keep them scruff free when installing pods, levers, lockouts, computers, etc. No big deal unless you are building for a customer and want to deliver it in pristine condition.
AHA! So I'm not just being paranoid!DeeEight

I've had it with Zoom, Easton, Wound Up, Nukeproof, Tioga, Rocket Science, and
several other brands of carbon bars.
Unless we're talking about Canadian water--LOL!TNC

I don't know, I've only used an Easton Monkeylite in the carbon bar category, but I just took the following measurements to see what differences I have compared to my metal bars.
My EA70 Monkey Bar is .895". My Azonic freeride alum. bar is .889". An old straight alum. Control Tech is .876. My carbon Monkeylite is .878". This indicates to me that there's not an unusual size issue for the Easton carbon bar. That old Control Tech bar is a mid 90's bar--no new tech there.
By the way, D8, any more reports on those attempted Candian water theft attempts? I've been looking, but having seen any breaking reports on CNN.
