| Yes | Duckman Apr 14, 2003 6:13 PM | | ..the faceplate surface area is very small relatively speaking, and half of that is ribbed. After about 3 months of xc riding and then a stem swap, upon inspection..i think just the normal harmonic vibrations of riding, flexing, crashing, etc all contributed to what made the outer faceplate edges cut into the carbon 2 nice faint but ver feel-a-ble groves. nest eh? I have the stem in use with a diff protaper carbon bar, but cut 2 small pieces of inner tube out and laid them under the contact areas only(so you barely see the edges if that at all)of the faceplate. after 2-3 inspections over the last few months of hard riding, it did indeed stop this from happening anymore and makes me feel alot better about running this combo. i run my carbon bars fairly lose as i'd rather have a bar slip then brake, and that it as done 1-2 times so i know i'm not tightning too tight or with improper sequence practices. for what its worth. |
| Like Duckman says | jw25 Apr 15, 2003 7:56 AM | | The ribbed sections in the front clamp plate will indent the bars. I have 2 sets of horizontal ribs along the front of my EC70, from 2 months in a Ritchey Pro stem.
The solution is to use some Easton friction paper. Give them a call, and they'll send you a free sheet. This helps keep the bars from slipping in the clamp, and also buffers the clamped section.
Easton uses a thick clearcoat, so the clamps did no damage, but still, I was fairly irritated. |
