The nice carbon ones. Which brand? Answer?

Have you got your 700cc wheels yet? I'm picking up my newly relaced and Revolutionised front wheel tonight from CyClingo, back on the roadie at last!! Too much TDF will do that to a person.

I'll be at pottery road tomorrow morning. 8am is a big ask, though!

I literally got of a flight from sydney around 40 minutes ago, and guess what I do first - Get the internet on, and watch the TTT from the tour which I missed when I was in sydney!

Bars weigh in at: 124g - 1g under the specified weight of 125g. IMHO - The best value bar you can get in Australia - Love the performance over traditional Alu bars. Very stiff and very nice on rough terrain. Seems to soften the bumps and vibrations.

I will see you at Pottery Road tomorrow morning - Really tired but looking forward to a ride. I will be picking up my 700c wheelset after the Pottery Road ride ready for sundays ride on the road... Looking forward to a nice tempo like road. May head out to Richmond sunday.

Trevor!
If you are interested to join on sunday for some roadie fun, let me know. Wont be anything super fast.....um Trev has fancied himself for a while being a member of Team Once - Love their TTT performance!

Edit: Is the pottery rd group up for riding if it is wet do you know?

They would defintitely soften vibrations, carbons' good like that.

Ha ha, tonights stage was really good, a "sprint royale", as Phil called it. Damn, how fast is Petacchi?

I'm up for some roadie fun for sure, and am actually going out after the pottery ride with a friend to do the Col de Glenlusk, heheh. Ron Horne (the rather foward guy who asked which part of Asia you came from last week) leads out a bunch every sunday at 8:30, I think. We can confirm tomorrow. They do head out in the rain, I'm sure. I think we'll be ok tomorrow anyway. See you at 8:oo.

I'm excited about my new front wheel on the road bike, can't wait to try it out.

I think you can expect to pay below $160Au for the flat bar - well worth it IMHO. Me thinks if you were to add that to your bike with a carbon seatpost and a lighter saddle you would save around 300g or so - guessing the saddle is heavyish for sure, but comfortable too....

umm Petacch rocks, so fast and smooth indeed, a real charmer on the roads for sure. One thing I dislike is how the Likes of Lance always gets talked about when you have such fantastic riders like Petacchi and then some of the young consistent riders just sitting back there quietly working on taking out the sprints etc... Can't wait for the mountain stages for sure.... It's funny I got an offer to go with some people to France for a holiday to do road riding. Taking in some of the hills that are ridden for the TdF. Ahh of only I had the $$$$ and a sweet road bike - would have been a trip of a lifetime...

Think I will hit the road solo today just to see how I go and then again tomorrow riding whatever - need to make up for lost time.... I only hope when i walk into the LBS that the thing is in waiting for me - If not I won't bother doing business again... I was supposed to have it for the Monday of my second week of the holidays - its now the saturday of my final week (6:13:38am)......

Good with getting your entry in - I managed to get my entry in and noticed they have presented the cheque so it looks like I will be doing that race. Heck, I am already quite excited indeed, I have been given a good run down on all the stages and it sounds like some fun.. Interestingly enough thought it sounds like a hardtail would be well suited to the race... Really cant wait. I hope that I get off to the Uni MTB championships during december - will be the perfect event to get me warmed up and ready for some good XC action!

Ciao, See you 8:00 for a good ride!

Stuart O'Grady has gone off the front and layed the smack down in a big way. Go Stuey!!!

This report from Cyclingnews.com
13:37 CEST 87 km/143 km to go
The gap is growing and growing, with O'Grady and Geslin now 14'15 (about 11 kilometres) in front of the peloton, which is still lethargically moving along in the summer heat.

Got my Wildside entry in today. Big relief.

Weighed my Titec ti bar that I cut 1.6" off total....Duckman

...last month..just a few minutes ago. Claimed weight is 225gm. Hmmm..reasonable. Figured maybe 210ish after shortening it maybe. If you haven't noticed, i'm in another big flurry of WW activity. Figured what the hell. Try the lightest effort i can put together for this next race 8 day from now, just for the hell of it. Anyway, back went the stock rockers. -60gms. Sid Team -115gms(not enough i know). Lighter tubes then what i've been running -60gms. Took the ti bar off and weighed it..whammo! 250ish gms. Ouch!! Bam!! back goes the Protaper until my new 135gm MaxM low riser carbon bar. My cut down protaper weighs 145ish gm as of 10 minutes ago. Good news is, the bike just lost over 100gms just from the bar switch. The bad news is, the HT just got over 100gm heavier LOL!! Cool bar tho, and looks good on the Moab anyway. So there. Now, back to the frenzy.

Some one stop me..please:(. Going for the high 21s. Need my use shim too. Back ordered still! The humanity even.

...one sexy looking piece of hardware. Looks to be a sensible rise as well.

My controls are Easton EA70 with a 3degree bend (145grams) with your stem. I used to race with risers, but found the sweep too much to contend with on climbs, wheel flopped everywhere. With the straighter bar, my hands are in a more neutral position, they pull back straight rather than to the side, eliminating the feeling of an overly 'light' front wheel. Or maybe I just can't ride in a straight line. Hmmm.

To get into the high 21's, you could always lose the rear disc, put some Avid Mag V's on instead (40 grams, I think). Keep the front, as that's the important one. I don't run discs, though, so this is not an informed opinion!!
BTW, you seem to be up early, hope you going for a ride, LOL!!

I'm already eyeing the alum rotor for the rearDuckman
Jul 11, 2003 4:55 AM
..which would save 50 more grams. entire rr is 256gms total, which is with steel rotor bolts, as well as all other hardware, pads, lines, etc. I'm using half alum and the other half ti for the rotors. Few more savings me thinks. Ti hardware for the faceplate to the stem, which is decent savings to be had, since they use the larger bolts for the pro vs the wcs stem.

Front alum already. Now i'm eyeing that 65gm slr, or maybe the 95ish gm version. Big $ tho for either, and not a common item on ebay, on sale, etc. Bummer. Figure the Marathon will be back on it post haste. Prob after my ride today. Just not worth it for a 1/4lb savings compared to the perfmc loss thats experienced.

Yes. Gotta cut my grass. Gotta. First the ride tho.

My front 160mm ali rotor saves 57g over the steel one.
The rear 140mm weighs 36g not sure on the steel one though.
I just bought a C64 65g saddle off of ebay...don't even think about asking what the price was!!

Nikh, want to trade your Man HT for my Man FS Frame? :P
Love that beauty and miss mine (rear triangle sheared off about a year ago).

Hrmph :(

EDIT: Mind posting some specs on it? Running an 80mm fork? Weight, whatever. Also, does the HT use a 31.9 seatpost as well (I never replaced mine)? If so, are you running an adapter from the 38.1 -> 31.9 -> ??? for a carbon post?

Thanks!
Here yah go Manitou,nikh

...2 warm laps early this morning for some faaaaaast(and abit slick)single track at Blankets Creek. Bike weighs 22.3 lbs..um..less mud. Sure does climb good. The steel 140mm is 87gms i think. The 160mm 117ish maybe?

Um..the seat$$$:)? Ha!! Bet its cool as hell regardless. Damn me!!

As you can tell, they are never far away. LOL!!! One of the finer things about living alone. What bike? Where?

"Selle Italia SLR C64 Saddle" (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3616775251&category=42319#ebayphotohosting)?

If so, how come the saddle rails on the saddle in the auction photo look like metal, and not like the carbon rails that are supposed to be used used on the C64?

Think the C64 and SLR carbon are not a great idea for MTB applications - better suited to hill climbs on road. Don't quite think they would suit ones 'aggressive' style of riding. It seems the best spot to save weight on a NRS is on its frame. Its construction is too heavy I think considering what it offers in terms of ride and strength. I think I will make a move to either a Ellsworth Truth or Intense Spider or heck even a C'dale Scalpel 3000 if I manage a test ride. Want something lighter and more active.

Are you still using the after market rockers on either of your rides? I have moved back to the original ones and after some good comparison, I think I prefer the smaller travel. Seems that the bike does perform better for me this way when it matters (Hammering along, sprinting). The small bump issue isn't all that much too me now... If only the NRS was active enough when climbing technical stuff....hmm.

Does look nice though doesn't it?
Hey Trevor, a friend of mine has a spyder on order,...malcolm
Jul 12, 2003 6:37 PM
and has just ordered a Fox F100 for it too so once he gets it I will con him into giving me a ride and I will let you know.
The bike shop he deals with said it could be a few months away though.
Keep you posted.

Thanks for that bit of info. I should order one if they are going a take a few months - I do however want a test ride, but no doubt in Australia there wont be a single one to ride - Damm.. Do let me know then how it rides though.. Surprised your friend went the F100 though - I thought the bike geo was suited to 80mm?

Dont they have 4x inches on the rear?
Apparantly you can make them 80mm too.
Malc.

Yep, 4 inches - so I guess the 100mm would be a nice match. The F100 will make an interesting choice - locking out when it matters (Read: Flats/Sprits).
