Is my scale wrong or what? NRS at 29lbs(9 posts)

Is my scale wrong or what? NRS at 29lbsMario

Below is my setup. I'm looking at new bikes right now and see some Blur and Switchblade posted at 24-25 pounds and some Enduro and 5-spot at 27-28 pounds.

So I weighted my Giant NRS 2000 and get 29 pounds. In theory my NRS frame should be about the same weight as a Blur or Switchblade? The Enduro and even more the 5-spot should have half to a pound more strait up on the frame/shock. So could my scale be wrong or do you see in my setup enough "fat" to make up 4-5 pounds?

Here is my specs:

- NRS 2000 frame (should be similar to Blur/SB I guess)
- CloudNine shock (should be on the very light side of rear shocks)
- Marzo Atom Race 100mm (Shouldn't be more than the 125mm on 5-spots...)
- WTB Speeddisc/no name hub (I guess a bit of fat here)
- Conti VerticalPro 2.3 front (quite light I think)
- Conti EscapePro 2.0 rear (no fat here)
- Ordinary light tubes
- Wellgo 801 pedals (maybe I could loose a bit with Egg ones)
- RaceFace Prodigy crank (not much fat I guess)
- Shimano BB (I don't know)
- XT cassette, XT rear, XTR front derailleur
- Deore shifters
- XT disc brakes with metal mesh lines (I guess a little fat)
- WTB Speed V saddle (very comfy but maybe a little fat)
- Easton EA50 seat post and stem
- Easton Monkey carbon handlebar

Just weighed a 20" 02 NRS air, stock = 27.5lbs

go to http://www.-light-bikes.com for ideas on lightening your bike.
Well, you see 27.5 for a NRS air...Mario

Well, in a sense you seem to be prooving part of my point. I now guess my scale is ok for my "fat" NRS at 29 pounds when I look at your NRS air part spec at 27.5 pounds. I understand that I can probably loose 1-2 pounds by changing a few of my components.

BUT, when I see posts of a 5-spot or Enduro with a 125mm fork, a coil shock, some 2.2-2.3 tires, at 27 pounds...then I don't understand. The same when I see Blur or SwitchBlade with 100mm fork at 24-25 pounds and they should have about the same frame weight as you...
LOL! That was goodDuckman

Had a good laugh from your post.

Yup. Fat tires too. My first trip to the alter(the dreaded hanging scale)and expecting 23.5-24lbs with my blue frame build ride, after its 2nd reincarnation. Bam..26lb even. 26lb? Damn!! Have scatched, begged, snag'd, etc etc my way down to the better side of 22lb range now. Now' it feels light. Only took 1 million dollars(said like doctor evil:).

My tires are 455-60ish gms Karmas. Good tire w/ decent volumn.

Duck-sure is fun tho.
DUCK, you forgot to reccomend those AL rotor bolts!!! :-)TomFL

coming to a town near you Wed!! Hope the weather is good.

Just got in a set of 1422g disk wheels for my wife to ride up there. Just in time for all the climbing--she's got no excuses now!

I'll E-mail my cell # before I hit the road. And BTW, thanks for those links!

AC hubs 28h F/R, FRM rim, WS XL14/DB14, AL nips. 649g front, 773g rear.

She's all of 118lb soaking wet, very non-aggressive in the tech stuff. Should be perfect for her. That and an explorer ss front/twister ss rear combo and she'll prolly pass Lance on Bull Mountain!

Perhaps your scale is off...pimpbot

... and check it against the scale at your LBS and see what you get.
Considering split is at 27.5, I think not...Mario

I have a digital scale so I would be dissappointed that it's wrong and split above says his NRS Air is 27.5, considering his part specs versus mine then I think it's probably right.

What I'm not sure now is how much the NRS frame weighs versus let's say the Enduro or the 5-spot. I was assuming that the NRS frame with shock was about the same weight has a Switchblade or Blur with shock and the Enduro maybe half a pound more, 1 pound more for the 5-spot. But Enduro and 5-spot with 5 inches forks at 27 pounds...!
