| Ummmm....broke 2 tire levers with the Mutanoraptor..... | TomFL Jul 14, 2003 4:54 AM | | Is this normal?
The bead feels like you're stretching a BMX tire onto your MTB wheel! D*mn is it tight!
Tried it on 2 different rims, same thing on both.
Can only imagine if one is caught out in the woods with a "Stantastrophe" without tire levers!!
Oh and anyone using this thing on the rear? Looks more like a front-specific tread.

| Interesting... mine are pretty loose | Karkus Jul 14, 2003 8:05 AM | | I've never had much trouble mounting any of my 3 Mutanoraptors (2.4 race) by hand on a couple of different rims (Valiants, Mustangs) and I've never needed more than 1 tire lever to get them off. Strange that you're having so much trouble. Which version do you have?
I'm using them front and rear, although I've heard some other folks only use it on the front. |
| Interesting... mine are pretty loose | TomFL Jul 14, 2003 8:23 AM | | This is a 2.4 race version. It's SCARY tight on the rim.
I'm putting this tire on my trailbike and won't be doing anything race/aggresive with it; I'm just after the width for floatation so it should do just fine.
It just looks more front specific to me.
Just hope I don't run into problems on the trail running them with Stan's.

| What kind of rims? | sdbullock Jul 14, 2003 8:33 AM | | I dont use levers to put my 2.4 Moto's on 317s; they pretty much just flop right on there, and in their tubeless form (Stan's) have lost NO air in 4 weeks. Ive heard WTB tires are pretty hard to get on WTB rims (go figure), but nothing 'bout nothing else. Maybe you've got an anomalie, and they should go back... |
| What kind of rims? | TomFL Jul 14, 2003 9:12 AM | | Well something's up, because one of the rims I mounted it on was a 317. SO I guess it must be the tire!

| Mine was also very tight at first... | B R H Jul 14, 2003 9:30 AM | | but after you air it up and ride it a bit, the next time it should be easier. I think I've had mine off twice now and it now fits very nicely. It's tight in a good secure sort of way. Just perfect in my opinion. I didn't break any tire levers mounting it the first time. Be sure the bead is in the lowest part of the rim channel as you go around and maybe try a Crank Brothers Speed Lever -- I really like this lever. This is one of the few tires I've had to use a lever to mount. I believe the other was a Smoke or Dart. |
