im not sure if this has anything to do with wait but why don't road racers wear camelbaks? ive been watching a little of the tour de france and do they just get more water bottles from all of those cars or something?

There are guys that get bottles to them, no need for camelbaks in races.

Yeah team backup crews give out water when it is needed. You will occasionally see a rider near the back fill up his jersey pockets with bottles and his bottle holders too and then move forward to front to pass the water onto his team mates.

Personally when I am road riding be it 50 or 100K or whatever I prefer bottles. I did take out a C.Back just the weekend past and didn't like it... More comfortable with bottles.

The reason is partly tradition (they have always done it that way) and the amount of water required.

You should drink about a litre of water for every hour of riding (in an ideal world), so for an 8 hour race you would require a 14 litre camelbak which would introduce a certain weight penalty!!! if you had to carry it over 3 or 4 2000 metre passes!!!!

Some riders (David Millar) do use a camelbak in time trials so there use on the road does happen.

Even on serious local road rides, 90% of the riders use water bottles. I love my mini Camelbak, though. Water bottles are all you need on the road, where you can refill them often, and you are not worried about drinking dirt. I like the Camelbak on the road because I drink more easily and frequrently from it. Plus, I have a super minimalist light one, and I am used to it.
