Chris King ISO/Velocity VXC wheelset 1630g
I had originally chosen to go X3.1/Sapim/King but I was on a tight budget and also I have been using tubes for 6 months now happily. I will be giving the Eclipse system a go. VXC rims are tough and Aussie made. Big Kudos to larry ( http://www.mtnhighcyclery.com ) for building a great wheelset and selling me XT/XTR disks and a few other items at a great price.
Cranks et al
Got my full drivetrain from Dirt-Boy. ( http://sales.light-bikes.com ) I got everything a super good price, which allowed me to get things I didn't think I could afford. He sent me the new 2004 FSA XC115 stem which is a sweet 132g at 120mm length with 6 degree rise.
Got the cranks, for low price, cheap replacement of rings, and BB choice. I chose Octalink because it works and lasts.
A few grams over spec weight. 579g or something.
Being dying to get my hands on a pair of these. 218g
Cant wait to try this stuff. 211g

Final build will be 23.9 pounds confirmed weight so a little over 24Lbs finished! Happy with that. I aimed for 23.5Lbs but some parts came in heavier than advertised...

The blue theme, was actually a little bit of a surprise to me. I choose the Hubs in Turquoise, as I don't ever recall seeing them on MTBR, and when they arrived the color was even better than I expected, happening to basically match the fork and Ellsworth Head badge.
There is a company called Dreambikes.com that was my insparation a year ago when I say Truth Builds that featured sweet colour combos.

It will be 25 this Saturday which is nice, so I will see you at our morning ride. I will make effort to ride from home. It will be my last big ride on the NRS. The following week the Truth (if it is dry) will make it's first maiden epic.

Model: DT Pure "Double Platinum" series. Spec: DT Swiss 240s disc hubs (28 hole), DT Swiss XR-4.1d rims, ProLock alloy nipples, Ti-MMC (gold) spokes. Weight: 1515g. RRP: $1399
Fox Forx 100RL, around $1200
A set of Hugi 240s will set you back $700, and that's with a discount.
SRAM 9.0 cassette for $170 (these are off a web retailers site in Aus).
Complete bike prices are easily worked out. When we see the US price, all we have to do is double it. And don't even mention Road Bikes. I have a mate with an Eddy Mercx (?) SL with full Record; around the $12000 mark, probably more with all the candy he's draped on it.
You get the idea. I've found that it is cheaper to buy from the US and the UK, even with our lamentably feeble exchange rate (Aus 69c to US$1.00, or similar). The prices in other countries appear to start at a lower point.

Amazingly impressive build.
I'm really curious, (ok, just plain nosey, you can tell me to f#*k off and mind my own business ;-)) did you cop any duties bringing all that stuff in ? or just GST ? and how much has it all cost ? Of course if there are some special deals there that can't be revealed, we'll all understand.
When I built up my C.K. DiscGoTech hubs (the ISO hubs were announced the day I received my hubs after being on backorder for 9 months) C-X Ray's, Mavic X 317's, I think the total build cost @ A$1100, which, considering the exchange rate at the time (approx A$1.00 = US$0.52) was pretty good. Oh, and all parts came through the Australian importers and the LBS.
Of course you have picked the right time to import stuff.
Anyway, well done, it looks most impressive, just be prepared for people to say "...mate, I think there's something wrong with your back hub, it's making a horrible weird noise..." :-)

|  The DiscGoTech hub came about...... | farmer rick Oct 16, 2003 6:12 PM | | as CK's answer to the myriad disc bolt patterns that sprung up before some sort of standard was settled on.
You'll probably find that they still make it, as it enables you to use old brakes such as Coda (Cannondale 4 bolt), Amp (3 bolt ??), etc by using a beautifully engineered adaptor that bolts on to the hub.
The newer ISO hub is to the 6 bolt standard that predominates now.
It is lighter than an average DiscGoTech hub, with taller flanges, using the same axles, bearings and ring drive, so overall it would build a lighter, slightly stronger wheel.
CK provide an up grade service for DiscGoTech users to the newer shell, but not likely in my case where the spokes cost so bloody much to replace ! |

Import duties on bikes usually work by taxing you twice. 10pc tax on value then 5 pc on the value of the new taxed value and then that new total again is taxed GST. Apparently.
Luckily, I didn't pay a single cent GST. Stuff arrived within 3-4 of shipment, and looking at the tracking service it spent the least amount of time in customs. Each box that arrived had the respective amount declared on it. It seems you need to have values above the $400 mark to attract duties. I may be just lucky but in all my experience I paid no duties.
Some rational behind not getting taxed is the fact that they are bare parts, that is not built up items. I don't think a wheel will attract tax but a Bike will.
FWIW, I would never ship a whole bike in though as it will indeed attract duty.

The LBS near me took a look at the wheels as King isn't common and I noticed a look of "Poor kid, got ripped of with a bad hub"... I just smiled!
