B4 SL no more - what light disc nowChris M

I'm told by a shop I asked about postmount B4 SLs that Formula have stopped making these due to corrosion problems with the Magnesium.

If this is true, what lightweight disc now?

Well, I've got over 1 yr on my B4 SLs and the magnesium looks as good as new on the levers and calipers. Bare mag will oxidize/corrode, but there is a pretty thick layer of clear-coat on the levers/calipers to prevent this.

From what I understand, the B4 SL is no longer being made for '04. It is now called the B4 Pro Plus, but it is still using mag levers and calipers. Some metal has been added to the brake and, as such, has increased the weight slightly (~20g).

Barely heavier than the B4SL (~20g I think), they are second lightest and much more powerfull.

Luego!

I am using the Marta SL's on my bike and I love them. To prove it I ordered a second set of them for the new bike that I am building. I cannot compare them to the Formula's since I have never used them but the Marta's are amazing brakes.

I like my marta too.

i have used with with stock rotor, then stan alloy rotor this summer, and now with wavy rotor with great succes.
And the magura crew on big race always offer a great service.

Very nice brakes. They modulate well and stop when needed. I don't think the 0.2 ounce weight savings on Marta SL is worth a $50 per brake upcharge though. I like the all black look of the regular Marta as well.

Ive used the B4 SL also. Decently good, but not up to par with the Marta. Martas are solid and have a perfect amount of power and modulation.

I have the B4SL in the post-mount version on hand. We just got it in August, in fact. IF you did have a corrosion issue down the road with the caliper, we could just swap it for a B4 Pro caliper. Drop me an email if you have any questions. Aside from being a little lighter, the price would be much nicer than what I've seen for the Martas....
