Bike specs and how to lighten up?Crash_FLMB

I have a Sugar that is my racing bike. I'm looking for ways to lighten it up. Any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated. I think it's about 28 lbs. now. I have never weighed it but that's my guess.

2000 Sugar frame w/ Fox RC shock
Manitou SX fork
Mavic 517 wheels
WTB Mano Raptor 2.1 tires
Race Face LP Cranks (May swap with RF Carbons from Id)
Time Carbon pedals
XT BB (upgrade to XTR or lighter?)
Thomson post
Selle Italia Gel seat (upgrade to SLR?)
Bontrager stem (definitely getting replaced...with Thompson?)
Titec DH bars (great bars but need to lighten up with Monkeylites)
Avid SP-7 levers
Avid V-brakes

That's about it I think. Are the things in (here) the best bang for the buck? Meaning the lightest stuff for the money? Since I blew a wad on the Id, and since I only ride this bike 10 times a year or so, I don't want to go nuts with like Paul's levers or anything. I don't think the weight savings is worth it. If I were riding and racing professionally, then yes it would be worth it. But I'd like to knock of a pound or two. Is it possible?
Sure is possible!!!CODMAN

I've said a thousand times, and I'll say it again... Lightweight tires and tubes save the most weight for your money!!! get something light for racing, like Conti Explorer SS, or Python airlight, or something of the sort, and some lightweight tubes (I liked Maxxis lightweight tubes personally, before going to Stans tubeless!). I'm sure you can shed half a pound with that!!

If it's only for racing, go for the lighter saddle!!! That'll save another 1/4 pound or so. Buy some eggbeater pedals with steel axels... Cheap and another 1/4 lbs off!!

With a good carbon riser bar, I'm sure you can same another 1/4 lbs...

There is lots more to change, but what I named is the easiest and cheapest for your $$

Luego!

Change the tires, but not mainly for the weight loss.Chester

Well I am assuming that the "Mano" Raptors he spoke about were actually Nano Raptors rather than Mutano Raptors. If so, then while he will lose about 200 grams by switching tires, the greater increase in performance will come from the lower rolling resistance rather than from the weight loss.

By switching from a set of Nano Raptors to a set of Nokian NBX 2.0 Lites he can drop approximatly 14.6 watts of rolling resistance.
That will do far more to lower his time than the 200 gram weight loss, although he will also benefit from the weight loss.
(BTW, the Pythons set will only lose 4.6 watts compared to the 14.6 watts)

Now if by chance, his "Mano" Raptors were actually Mutano Raptors then his tire switch would actually deliver even more benefits.
OOPS! Typo, Nano not Mano (nm)Crash_FLMB
