| UST or tubes? | crux Oct 21, 2003 4:56 AM | | Bulding up a new wheel set and considering going tubless. On average is the UST setup going to be heaver than an averge tube setup. What about performance differences? Is it still possible to flat on the trail? if so do you need a compressor to get going agian, or standard pump going to work? |
| neither...alternative Tubelesskits... | nino Oct 21, 2003 5:19 AM | | tubes = flats
UST = pretty good flat resistance but pretty good is not very good and it comes at a heavy weight.
get a Tubelesskit instead:
www.notubes.com
or
www.tubelesskit.com (Eclipse-Tubelesskit)
tubelesskits allow you to use conventional wheels (don't have to be UST!) and regular tires (don't have to be heavy UST).the sealant inside the tires give you added protection agains flats during the ride.it's unlikely you flat with suchg a tubelesskit installed , you save a lot of weight and get lower rolling resistance too.
you save 9 watts in rolling resistance compared to the same tire used with inner tube.this was tested by german magazines.expect a weight reduction of about 500g compared to a similar UST setup.
if you want the absolut best flat protection get UST tires AND sealant but that adds mucho weight...
the Eclipse Tubelesskit weighs 120g per wheel including sealant, rimstrip and everything.that's equal to a lightweight tube and rimstrip.it allows for low pressures, makes for added grip and speed (rewmember the lower rolling resistance) and allows the use of lightweight race tires so it's also the lightest option to run tubeless! |
| where?? | doccoraje Oct 21, 2003 6:56 AM | | Hi nino, do you know how to get eklipse in México, by what I've heard it´s better than stans, but it´s hard to get both here. |
