Questions regarding Giant NRS'sWirth
Jan 16, 2004 12:04 AM
So boys I have been looking to pick up a Giant NRS it seem like there are some good deals out there right now. My Question relates to how the NRS change between 2002 and 2003? It seem's like for 2003 they reinforced the headtube to the down tube. Does anyone know if the chainstays change or stayed the same? How about weight for both years? Any ride diff. between the two years????

Why are there so much cheaper than the Fuel?

The top-tube near the head tube has also been strengthened using their hydroforming technology instead of a welded piece of aluminum.

Regarding price - Giant is THE largest manufacturer of bicycles. Giant builds all their value bikes in China and their upper-end in Taiwan. Both sound like third-world countries as far a production is concerned but Taiwan will soon be like Japan in that it will be too expensive to produce bicycles there to remain competitive. Economies of scale are the rule for this company.

Regarding weight - should be a bit lighter because of the hydroforming technology used on the head and down tubes instead of welds and extra aluminum material. How much? Dunno.

Chainstays? Dunno.

Bottomline, they're a bargain in regard to performance as opposed to companies like Ellsworth and Santa Cruz DS XC frames. You might be able to argue Ellsworth and SC bikes perform better given a certain scenario, but is the return on performance match the price difference? That's for the rider to decide.

with the adjustable rebound shock. I got one off an '03 bike (they were moving the components to an '04 carbon frame) for $600.

04s changed to a more compact dogleg thingie.

I ride an 02 an 03 daily. The 03 is noticeably stiffer. Can't tell the weight diff if any tho. "Some" o3s got the diff rockers with the lock bolts for the rr bushings.
