cool - it's getting better some...BUT IT STILL SUCKS!!nino

but you still have to click on a button to have them sorted by thread start date...i guess they will have to modify the new format until it becomes like the old one :))

what a stupid move that was! is there anything on the new format that is "better"? i still haven't found out why we need "avatars" or smileys in posts etc..

all i care is to read and post. I really don't need any additional gimmicks.and if reading becomes a pain because you can't actually follow the thread it's getting to a point where i become annoied and leave!

as it is i have to
-click on "thread create date" to be able to find the threads that otherwise are mixed up all the time
-click on each thread and scroll before i can post a reply to a certain post
-log in before i can post (each time you visit the forum)

so that's 3 additional moves you have to do before you can actually post a reply. hmm - what an improvement over the old format !
why?split

Why don't you like how the new forum sorts the threads now, with the thread with the latest post being at the top? What does it matter what order the threads are in, they are people's totally random thought anyway? I personally like to see the latest post to any thread, so I prefer to see it at the top - if someone had something to say in a thread, I want to see it.

And, if you have your cookies turned on in your browser, you shouldn't have to log in each time. Just make sure you check the box to remember your Username and Password when you log in. Plus, there should be a reply button with each post, just like the old forum.

Not to say I don't like the old forum (I love its simplicity!), but I don't mind the new one either.
I have to agree with NINO, I like the simplicity of this currentdidier Carpentier

I have to agree with NINO, I like the simplicity of this current forum and don't feel confortable with the new format. why changing a winner? why trying to improve to make it more complex to use.
just like nino, so far I tried the new one to check it out but don't feel like being around that much. mind you I check this one 2 or 3 times daily, I checked the new one just to see if it is picking up.
I hope it won't be a success or else I don't think I'll stick around much.

Sure, they'll do everything until it fits Nino's personal preferences,
because -according to Nino- he would stay away and as result the forum would immediately die.

> what a stupid move that was! is there anything on the new format that is "better"?

* less resource consumption -> the new forum loads way faster for me than this one
* less security holes
* better and faster search function
* ability to build a real community (not just a sales area for Nino like this forum was)
* formatting messages is sooo much easier

Now let's see why you don't like it:
* your "Here you go..." postings don't call as much attention as here
* no more endless "... nm" chat style spamming

Recently I found a poll about the vBulletin-type style vs. threaded-style:
89% voted for the vBulletin-type style.

My personal opinion:
Threaded viewing is archaic, there's way too much clicking, blank replies, off-topic posts, that sort of thing.
I enjoy the new forum and I guess so does the silent majority.
why so much negative thinking on NINO?didier Carpentier
Jan 17, 2004 11:45 AM
why so much negative critics about a person that really bring something constructive to the forum. the guy is really knowledgable on the weight matter and is more than happy to share it with us all. than I simply cannot understand your style of comments.
a bit of business... who doesn't and no one force you to purchase the items he sell at a really good price as well, for sure. $90 for a full set of Vuelta mag at 260 gr fr & rr, including a 160 gr leverset? gee, isn't a deal or what?
Sure I like nino pretty much, he has true passion. like few have. you may be jaleous of that, no question. or else, may be because he knows so much about bicycles that he could easely work for a major bicycle company in the research and dev. department.
are you jaleous of someone here?
the new forum makes more barriers to access to the point of interest, to me either.
I feel more at home over here and the whole issue is the please us all or else at least a majority of us. lets see if it does really pick up, yet so far it seems that many are still sticking to the old one, like you, nino and myself.

Simplicity is always key - I can't say anything bad about Nino - he's helped me out alot!! Everyone has a right to their opinion...I'll just use both boards...or until this one dies...I'm sure we will get used to the new one.
because it's D8 and he has nothing better to do (nm)Patchito

I never use different aliases and if you weren't a moron, a simple View source code ip# check would show the posts from others who don't think highly of nino aren't coming from either of the two ISPs I surf from.

Of course, that little fact also ruins your pet theories about nino being loved and respected by all others on here.

D8,

Here's a piece of the new forum functionality once the old one dies:

"Now Flame Starters, Trolls and very negative posters can be banned, removed and banned fast and easily by MTBR and Moderators if they like. If a post is getting out of hand, too personal or downright nasty, the moderaters and remove it. Also MTBR can ban this person pretty much for good too. Unless they get a new service provider and change computers. The good hacks like ^Dr. Evil^ will still get it, but it helps."

Your need for attention and poor attitude means your days are numbered (and we're all looking forward to it). And I'm sure you don't have the skillset to be a "good hack(s)" or will bother getting a new ISP.

Gee, what are you going to do now? Boo-hoo. No one will know who you are, (not that many of us cared to start)boo-hoo.

Don't be sad D8, I'm sure there'll be a place for you somewhere else where you can be a self-proclaimed bike god. Unfortunately for you, it'll most likely be a place no one will care about.

Good Luck!

I've been here for SEVEN years and they've never banned me, or attempted to ban me. If that isn't enough of a hint that you're clueless, then nothing will do the job.

Oh and they're more likely to ban someone who posts under multiple handles from the same IP# than someone like me, so its you who's days are numbered.
well, he "may" be rightNot Duckman

..since I was..until recently, the forum moderator over at the outdoorreview board, for the last 4-5yrs. They never could ban "anyone"..just an entire server area. This would be unfair obviously. They asked us moderators not to make this tid bit of info a well know fact since it never hurts to have that "fear(for lack of a better word)" of this possibility.

Have no clue on this new software tho. Don't care either.

I KNOW you're the clueless one. You're talking about software you know nothing about (about the same skill level you have with bicycles knowledge). This software is old, lacks basic forum functionality now found commonly in other PHP-type software and will soon be (if not already) unsupported.

Check out edmunds.com and even try to express yourself like you do in forums like Subaru. You'll last less than a week - guaranteed. Try it, I dare you. And I know you won't because of your meekness. I know, I know. You'll claim you have no time, you're too good for it, blah blah blah. Remember, I've got your personality weaknesses nailed and all you have on me is the IP# argument. WEAK, WEAK, WEAK.

You're all bark and no bite. Five-year olds cop better attitude than you. Yet, I enjoy "working" with you.

Good luck on the way down.

Regards,

pnassmac

why so much negative thinking on NINO?alleyoop
Jan 18, 2004 9:29 AM
To work in R&D, you need to be able to do more than regurgitate bicycle component weights. I am going to make this very clear, Nino is not an engineer. He is knowledgeable about weights only, not what durability or cycle testing, and manufacturability analysis, etc. that component was tested under to ensure it is viable for use either in XC, freeride, downhill (choose your poison)...

Get a clue Didier, Cannondale is currently scouting for a composites engineer. Nino, throw your hat in the ring!

Apply for the job then shooter, maybe while you're at it you can apply to Microsoft to be a software engineer. You seem to be well versed in that area as well. Bill Gates' right hand man!
The Swiss are so smart they forgot to patent quartz technology, allowing Seiko (Japanese) to blow them out of the water.
And why can't Scott sell in the US?, what a joke they are! I would buy a Scott right about the same time that I voluntarily moved to Switzerland.

Any watch worth having is mechanical anyway and there's no one in the world that comes even close to a fine handmade Swiss watch.

grow a spine and go already, stop threatening to do it and just do it. If you and others can't adapt to a simple format change then don't let us keep you from going elsewhere.

I have ZERO problem with finding threads, nor scrolling thru threads, nor responding to just that post, nor do I have to log in each time (you can tell it to remember your log in). Of course I must be cheating since almost every other discussion site on the web uses a vBulletin format forum, and I long ago wrapped my brainpan around the format without any of the resistance and complaining you and others seem to be exhibiting.
ahh - i'd like to hug you!!!...nino
