New Board...(long)(10 posts)

New Board...(long)DIRT BOY
Jan 17, 2004 10:29 AM
Guys, let me start out by saying WE ALL, including ME need to get over this new board thing.
Here is are some of my thoughts and what I know we the board is changing.

1. The Old Forum Software is no longer supported by the company that makes it. MTBR is having issues and there is nothing that can be done about it.
2. This particular software has many issues and security flaws that Consumer-Review does not want or need.
3. Unfortunately there really is not much out there when it comes to Message Board software. These PHB based or VBulliten Board are "Open Source" software, This means anyone can create programs for this type of software and things will work correctly. Unlike Microsoft , that unless you pay and even then you won't know the source code and things might not work right or conflict with each other.
This software for this type of board and usually FREE or way cheaper than anything else.
4. The security measure and features in this software are really high and work very well.
5. More Bells and Whistles also with this style message board. I think a lot of people love it and may others hate it. IMO, the younger crowd really enjoys all the features and they older crowd is use to what works and simplicity.

Now MTBR has no choice but to change. Get over it or just don't post anymore. If they wanted to or it was feasible, they could have this very basic software reproduced and made better y any decent software programmer, but they chose to kinda of go with the times.

Now the change will bring some nice things to the board and MTBR.
I like the Private Messaging feature and the more in depth profiles. I can basically leave the whole avatar crap. Yes it's harder to surf and browse these board, but you will get use to it and MTBR is still the best when it come to message boards.

Now Flame Starters, Trolls and very negative posters can be banned, removed and banned fast and easily by MTBR and Moderators if they like. If a post is getting out of hand, too personal or downright nasty, the moderaters and remove it. Also MTBR can ban this person pretty much for good too. Unless they get a new service provider and change computers. The good hacks like ^Dr. Evil^ will still get it, but it helps.

Look, this style board on MTBR and other E-communities is here to stay. Let's make the best of it and keep a good thing going.

For for you who still feel like you hate it, Light-Bikes.com will offer a small message board soon very similar to the one here as a alternative.

I will still and always be here, but do to this board issues that "I" have with it as others, will be browsing and posting lees often until I get used to it or get over it. I love this board and will always be a part of MTBR.

You just need to go with the flow guys!

Just my thoughts and opinions...

Just Kidding. I think most of us have accepted the fact that it wasn't so much MTBR's "choice" to switch as it was more of a necessity due to the software thing. I think we're all over there and "getting used to it", whether we happen to like it or not. "Adapt and Overcome"...thats our motto...well maybe it's not exactly OUR motto, more like "Captain...They've learned to adapt". Anyway, enough of it.

Forward....Ever Forward.........
agreed - but just look at the number of hits :(( (nm)nino

cool. will the new forum software have a filter to keep dealers, or in this case, personal trainers with a bike business from their house, from putting their signature lines in their posts? when i last looked, most dealers who participate in a forum 'go with the flow' and don't spam us, and push their garage bike sales with their postings. no, i'm not a dealer.
What's your point?DIRT BOY

What's worn that I run a samll business form my home?
I am lot more successful than your sorry troll butt!

I also Import/export parts from Europe and South America and I am opening a shop in Columbia this June. What's your OWN business like?

I guess posting pic of parts and info is considered SPAM by YOU, but useful info by the majority on this board, lurkers/silent majority and MTBR Staff.

I don't post a flat out ad, unless it's in the market place, someone asks or it's relevant to saving weight.

Dude, most of us saw you getting flamed on the RBR.com for you stupid and troll like comments. Just go away dude!!

Also posting under different name to rip is real big of you! At least anyone here knows who I am and what I do. Have I ever be dis-honest? I run my business through all the right channels and provide some of the best customer service around with my bike business or Fitness Business.

BTW! The link below does not go directly to a business site! It's a site open to anyone to post their bike and share info!
There is a link on the site that leads to my business as well as sponsors of the site!

uh yeah, the rbr guy was me... not... probably that guy who calls himself the bull.

anyway, yeah, your link doesn't go directly to your business site, but conveniently of course, your sales site is linked off the front page of your light weight site. most dealers don't promote their business in this underhanded way. as for supporting products, i've seen you bad mouth several different manufacturers, so one can only wonder how you would represent a vendor's product line in a positive light. you also bad mouth fellow forum members on a regular basis. not someone i'd like to do business with. i am glad you have your minion of followers on this site. by the way, are you an authorized shimano mail order / internet sales reseller? i don't see the logo on your site. perhaps shimano would like to know about this?

some of your posts are actually useful 'dirtboy', but again, the way you have your sig in your posts which links to your weight / sales site is both lame and cheap.

enough of this pissing contest with you. have a nice day.
i think we all forgot....WE LOVE YOU TOO ! (nm)nino
