| Some observations and..um..stuff | Not Duckman Jan 19, 2004 7:48 PM | | I love the Oury grips, but they are heavy and that bigass ugly disc on the end of it has to go. Lose prob 20% of its total weight, and not giveup any crosssection. I mean, whats that thing do anyway? Tell ya theres no bar past.."here"? I dunno man. For my main long in the saddle trail bike pic'd, i gotta have'm and this is one of those "compromises we always talk of. This just makes the extra weight more tolorable is all, and looks. Talk about stiff..Deus stem, MaxM mx5, 32mm fork, stiffer steertube on the 03 frame, and isis drive with turbines which don't hurt. Way diff. ride then my other 2 rides. Like the Deus, but its heavy even tho it has ti hardware used for the faceplate. Have a 100mm Ritchey Pro(my race nrs has a ti equipd 120mm Pro)coming for $32(ebay)as well as ti hardware for it. It enjoys more weight savings then the wcs from a ti bolt swap cause they are 6mm instead of those tiny 5mm. I have a wcs on the HT, and its more at home with the sid on the Moab. The Pro is closer to the Deus in stiffness then the almost as heavy wcs. Will drop my stack height by 15mm to shift weight a tad forward since i'm losing 10mm reach from the 110 Deus. Steertube capbolt is alum. Will cut steertube as well.
Have never touched my 01 Hayes mags except ONE pad change. Still on that 2nd set. Have a seperate set of Stans pads to run the alum disc on this ride also. Good solid brakes.
I did used this thin perfm. unltralight 1.9 tube section last Spring. Light and sano looking imho. Durability was the question then.
Um...pay no attn to the tire pile please. Move along, nothing to see...
I spun it around just now and heres how its faired....
Note the buffed look. About the same look after sanding the tube for patch action. Nothing more. 4 races, and lots of riding. This pic was taken 5 mintues ago..i guess is my point. Just cut half moons out of a folded tube, and presto. Unbolt a pivot of 2, slid'm on.

| Nice observations | 80z28s6 Jan 19, 2004 8:33 PM | | Well I ordered 4 Racing ralphs tonight. My Noleen fork is on the way. I love my lock on lizard skin grips. Soon I'm going to get a Maxm bar more than likely a mx-5. Unfortunatly when I first started riding mtn bikes installed a lizard skin chain stay protector and thats whats on there now. All on my small 02 NRS1. Yes I do have pics just haven't gotten around to posting them on the web.(lazy on my part, even got a great shot of my pet iguana on the handle bars with the grips) |
| so, are you saying there is a big difference.... | VT Mike Jan 19, 2004 8:57 PM | | in stiffness between the Ritchey Pro and WCS? I've heard plenty of people complain about the WCS being flexy, but never had a problem with my Pro. I also got it for $32 on eBay - 153g for a 120mm, and another $18 for ti bolts to bring it down to 139g. I didn't notice any difference when I went to the Syntace f99, but I also changed the handlebar at the same time. |
| Yes, its stiffer then the WCS. The blue bike came with... | Not Duckman Jan 19, 2004 9:12 PM | | ..WCS stem Aug of 02, and have been swapping it around ever since. The Deus is brute of a stem. The Pro isn't far surprisingly, and for sure feels better then the WCS. The HT with its sid, etc setup, the wcs isn't "taxed" as much(retired?:), and goes with what i want that bike to be. The Syntace looks like it would HAVE to flex at least as bad as the WCS, so i opted for the Pro. Still may try the Syntace on the Blue ride, especially after hearing you observation of it. The Pro to me is a good compromise for the function this bike fulfills.
Plus, its $32. Ha! |
| I went from the.... | VT Mike Jan 20, 2004 7:41 AM | | Pro with a titec 118 bar to the f99 with a syntace duraflite carbon bar. I guess I could have changed to a stem that was less stiff and a bar that was more stiff at the same time, and couldn't tell the difference. I'm about 165 lb, but I have some knee problems so I tend to stay seated and spin most of the time. I hardly ever get off the saddle and really hammer - maybe this makes me less sensitive to bar/stem stiffness. You better get an f99 and see for yourself :) |
