Anyone have any experience with getting sponsorships?TomFL

Not specifically factory sponsorship(I'm not at that level..yet :-)) But more along the lines of selling spots on jerseys that will be worn for a season.

What are the going rates for say sleeves or jersey pocket ads, shorts butt area/legs, etc?

If so, do you have any ideas for types of companies that helped you, outside of the normal "bike shop" companies?

And how was your response to the dollars they spent with you? Were they happy with the dollars spent vs the exposure you got for them? Have they re-signed with you for the new year?

I know more than a few of you have been in my shoes before, and would love to get some input as to what worked/didn't work for you.

Thanks for the help

When I rode for University of Central Florida, we had several sponsers. It was illegal for us to profit off of the sponserships since we rode for a state school. The sponsors gave us $2500 for a logo on our Jersey and $3500 for a large logo. These were very generous sponsors so don't expect that much. We had to use every penny towards the team like race entries, gas for traveling, hotels, bike parts. We had a bike sponsor too who gave us full built up bikes (Bianchi). We basically went around to the small shops and asked if they were interested in sponsoring the team. We got a lot of small deals like smoothie king coupons good for free drinks and free meals at restaurants. Our sponsors were very happy with our results since we came in Second in the SE region. Go to like vitamin stores, bike shops, pizza places, etc. Don't bother with the large corporate stores. Go to the family owned stores and small businesses. Good Luck.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking as well. We're trying to sell logo placements for a whole lot less than that, in the neighborhood of $500 for the short backs, $750 for the sides, and $250 for the pockets.

If we had even ONE sponsor that could cough up $2500, that would be incredible.

Thanks

Well Good luck. I know what you are exactly going through. We had to kiss a lot of butt to get that money plus there was like 12 of us on the team.
