Any thoughts on parts for Matt Chester frame?Ricky

I am gonna get a matt chester utilitiman and a kinesis maxlight fork. What other components should I get. Looking for light and extremely durable. I only weigh 135. Any ideas? How little could I get this bike without doing stupid stuff? 17? 18? 19? Thanks a lot

I've got a Utilitiman that weighs in at just under 20 pounds. Its got : King hs,lp carbon bars, easton mag stem, paul levers, avid mag calipers, phil rear hub with a mavic 517, spinergy spox front wheel, geax sedona and conti rear, sweet wings cranks and wtb pedals, thomson stem and era saddle. The frame size is a large. The fork is a ti rigid. Most of the components on my bike are just about the lightest "usable" parts available.
If your frame is smaller and you went with a lighter rear wheel and xc race tires, you should be able to be somewhere around 19. The Chester is not a particularly light frame, but it rides exceptionally well.

I took the durable route on my UTE and the sucker still weighs just over 20 pounds maybe 21. (bathroom scale)
185mm Profile cranks
Time Atacs
Raceface 140mm stem
Raceface XY seatpost
King HD
Easton Scandium Monkey bar
Phil hubs on Velocity rims
conti Vert Pro tires
Precission Billet brakes with Avid levers
2 big monster Kule boosters
Rigid Teesedale fork

If you weigh 135 you can get away with lighter stuff but don't go crazy or you might regret it. You could still be bomber and save some good weight on your cranks and wheels. My advice is get a good stiff stem and bar and cranks.

I trimmed the outside knobs a bit to get a rounder profile and more chainstay clearance and they are tasty -- just like my fav's explorer pro but BIG.

I like the solid durable route.
I got the Husky frame that Mondo had built.
Larger seat tube and down tube er some thing like that.
All I know is it is pure butter.

Max lite fork
Profile racing cranks w/ti BB
37T profile Whippit chainwheel 18T f/w
PC-1 singlespeed chain
Surly 1X1 hubs
Mavic ('92 vintage) 117 ceramics
Tioga 2.1 does the sniffing
Hutchinson On The Rocks scratches the trail
Avid brakes
Thomson post and stem
Generic Ritchey headset
Specialized 3/4 low rise bar
Big Cheese grips
WTB saddle
Tips the scale at 22.4 elbows
On the trail it feels like it's weightless.
My first ride on it offroad was the race in Tallahassee.
The Chester was on rails.
However you set it up,
It's gonna rock.
Peace

At 200lbs. min I also went mostly durable parts.Mine is a pretty large Mute,24 1/2" t.t.
Velosity Dyad hoops with Phil hubs and W.T.B. Nanorapters.
Cook E s.s. cranks with Time Alium pedals.
Suntour X.C. Pro b.b.
pc7x chain
Avid Tri Align cantis and Ultimate levers.
C.K. head set
Salsa Cromo stem and Cromoto risers.
Rick Hunter ridged corrected fork.
Thompson post and Brooks Pro saddle.
Even with the cromo parts, lead saddle and massive wheels it came in at 23 1\2 lbs.
You will looooove it.

Not really a weight issue, but go with compact spacing for your cranks and a 32 tooth chainring. I have std spacing and it was a mistake. my ute came out to just under 21 lbs, with a Manitou air fork.
why compact? (nm)andy
