| Rockford Cross series on SS | AlexR Oct 29, 2001 7:12 AM | | One down, three to go. There was actually a single speed class that raced with beginners and the women. They got a short race unfortunately, so I decided to race with the B's.
B's field was about 30 folks, I think I was the only single. I got whooped on the paved start, and I got whooped every lap on the long paved descent. But I held on ok and got fifth. Not bad for my first cross race I think.
The course was very dry, and my old bald ritchey speedmax's worked fine. I was on a 36/18 that felt very small at warmups and very big on the seventh lap. Overall I think it was the right choice.
To sup up - it's a real thrill to get "go singlespeed" cheers from people you don't know. I had a ton of fun, and if any of you all are out there say hello. I'm on the blue Gunnar with tan tape.
