I read it in Velonews, so it must be true.....Spudmeister

I found this tidbit in the Nov. 5 issue of Velonews. At the end of the article about Paris-Tours is a note about the fastest & slowest times recorded in the race...

'The third fastest occurred in 1965, and was a bizarre footnote in the race's history. That year, the race was run as a single-speed race - no derailleurs. With favorable wind conditions, the winner, Dutchman Gerben Karstens, posted an average speed of 45.029kph on the 246.8km course. It was the fastest average in Paris-tours to date, and lasted until Redant's 1992 ride.'

Now you have something to discuss this weekend.
