i've had one for almost a whole year. definitely a great bike. doug is real easy to work with. took about 8 weeks to get the frame and some parts. but definitely worth the wait. fits like a glove, very comfy, i really like the curved stays, takes the edge off rocks and such.
very highly recommended. my next bike will mostly like be from him.
Don't get me started---I love mine!!!seattletim

I went with straight chainstays in back and threw a marzocchi Z-2 on mine, and could not be happier. Man, my curtlo tracks like the bullet train in Tokyo. Nimble, and climbs well when my legs are working....
You cannot deal with a better frame builder than Doug Curtis, either. I met him personally and we talked about everything I wanted from my frame, and he nailed it with the finished product. If you read the reviews on Curtlo's on this site, the only negative was the powdercoat finish....he has since changed his source, and my powdercoat blue is AWESOME.
I say go for it. Ride a few other steel frames to get an idea of what geometry you want, personalize a bit, and he'll get you there.

Here's a pic of mine. Look for it at Sea Otter in a month!

based on folks' opinions in here, and on exchanges with Doug. He is very easy to work with and will accommodate your strange thoughts. I'm getting a custom-designed Solo Mountaineer that mimics my Airborne Lucky Strike in many ways, but has changes in a few areas that I think will improve the bike overall. He's giving me hydro brake line braze-ons on the TT so that I can run full housing from lever to calipers with my Avid SD-7 brakes. Here's my full list of build parts so far, some of which will come from my Redline MonoCog, which one of my friends already is eager to take off my hands!
