To drill or not to drill...(7 posts)

To drill or not to drill...bones
Feb 13, 2002 9:59 PM
I'm tired of taking my crankarm off every time I want to adjust my eccentric. Would the strength of the eccentric be weakened if I drilled a hole in it so that I can leverage with a screwdriver and my crankarm?

Any thoughts?

My eccentric has two holes in it. I don't think the eccentric would get any weaker if you drill the holes. The holes in my e are 7mm.

It's a flaw in that type of e-BB, not the e-BB soln....SS_MB-7

Actually, it's a flaw in that type of e-BB (set-screw style), not the e-BB solution itself. My Bushnell e-BB is a wedge-type that uses a single 4mm allen bolt on the non-driveside to loosen/tighten the e-BB (see pic). This can be done without removing the cranks!

what kind of EBB are you using?tamjam

I'm using a Haden and adjusting it couldn't be easier. It's just got a little hole on the non-drive side that I use a 5mm allen key to spin the EBB around in the shell.

They make their own eccentrics in-house. I think I'm going to take it to a metal shop and have them drill a hole like that one.
