Talked to a rep. from Sun Race today about the new SS freewheel. He told me it's gonna retail for around a $100! Egads! I was so shocked I couldn't even respond. Did I missunderstand? Talk about a tough sell-even if it's bomb proof.
Are you sure it's not a hub..Brad aka Tus

I heard that it was going to retail for 49.00ish when they unveiled at interbike. Hopefully the guy you talked to was a bit misinformed, that's a disappointing.

I saw this freewheel at the Quality open house yesterday also. The company guy keep saying something around $150 but when I asked him specifics about just the retail $$ of the freewheel, I mentioned $30 quoted in another magazine and he implied that it would be less, way less than that.
The freewheel has instant engagement, no lag, deadly quiet.
Should be available by March...
No pics, no brochures tho.

I can keep myself in acs for damn near the rest of my life.....
even at wholesale thats outrageous. BMXPlus magazine qouted $29.99,
still too much for the market to bear (i think anyway).

I'd gladly pay $40, maybe even $50, ifsingleminded

IF, I stress, they prove to be bombproof. That's not a lot to pay if it means no worry of failures on the trail, no hassle of putting your wheel in a bench vice every few months in order to replace a clunking, slipping, crappy ACS. If guys are replacing them for tooth wear before problems with the freewheel mechanism etc., then they'd pay for themselves easily.

Anyone who'd pay $150 for a Phil rear hub when they could have a Surly for $50 shouldn't complain about a $50 freewheel that lasts for a year or more.
So far, so gooddlk

The SunRace freewheel I have has been worry free. Only problem, as I've mentioned before, is that it starts out stiff. If you're riding along and take your feet off the pedals, the crank arms will keep on rotating, like a fixie. But it loosens over time, and in real world riding, the affect on coasting is not noticeable.

When I bought my freewheel, the LBS said they had a BMX team that had been testing the SunRace for many, many months. They hadn't had any failures. Still, these are all prototypes, so it remains to be seen how the final product will perform.

The FW is not going to cost $100. I can tell you from my experience that this freewheel is awesome. I do not work for SunRace, but I have helped with testing on this freewheel and it will be worth every penny. I put over 500 miles on the first prototype that they gave me and it was holding strong. I submerged it in freezing cold water and it still did not skip a beat. I still have a second prototype freewheel (they asked for the first one back) on my SS right now and it is just as good as when I put it on there. Say good-bye to slamming yourself on the toptube when a freewheel skips .
