Matt Chester Pt. 2...Vs. Kenisisernesto
Apr 19, 2002 6:23 AM
Here it is in it's full splendor. I swear I will never mess with the fork setup again. I am not going to get used to the suspension fracas I made for myself yesterday. If I had kept it like that it would have been bugging me forever.

But it took me an hour and I switched the brakes to the utilitarian Shimano STX mofos, and put the Avids arch supreme or whatever you call them, aside. If anyone is interested, I am selling one of the Avids for $20 and including the pads from the other brakes (the Avids I had in the front). I found out the front Avids were messed up. I might have mesed them up, but if you want to fix them, you can have them. Great brakes if you ask me.

Anyway, notice how shiny the darn thing is. WAHOOOOO!!!!

Critique the bike if you must.

what length fork does Matt design to?DAS

It seems like that Kinesis is short, maybe non-suspension corrected. Anyone know what fork Matt designs to? I'm surprised to see that a couple of you Chester owners are running shorter rigid forks. Does a short fork ride more agile? Or more laid back? I'm guessing a long fork is around 450mm (suspended), 430mm (rigid), and shorter rigid fork is around 410mm. My numbers could be off (shut UP, Derek).

He uses the Kinesis max lite.
The crown to axle measurement is 398mm.
As long as you stay within 5mm you should handle fine.

...and adjusts the frame fit. His personal preference is the Kinesis fork which is not suspension corrected.

If you plan on using a suspension fork Matt has no problem building the frame to work with it. Every frame is made to order. My frame-that-has-not-yet-arrived is designed for an X Fly 100.

I'm definately interested in the brakes (i need to get these Deore poc's off my bike)and was wondering what's wrong with the front avid. if you'll let 'em both go for $20 i'll take 'em as longs as at least one set's good, the other's i'll work on. e-mail me at djs249@yahoo.com and let me know.
