| ACS Claw freewheel? | 1x1 Speed Craig Apr 19, 2002 7:24 AM | | I'm picking up a 16T ACS Claw freewheel tonight to replace the 16T Shimano freewheel that I currently use on my Soulcraft. What are your opionions (I'm opening a huge door, here) on the ACS? Durability? Quality?
Thanks,
Craig |
| Similar quality and durability... | Billy Apr 19, 2002 7:31 AM | | The Shimanos are more quiet out of the box but an ACS can be lubed and made as quiet as the shimanos. |
| I like them, though... | shiggy Apr 19, 2002 8:58 AM | | ...they can have the "ACS Knock" while pedaling. It does not mean the FW is failing but it can be very annoying. Coasting for a moment to reset the pawls can stop it sometimes. I soak the FWs in Mobil One motor oil once in a while and that helps, too (after cleaning them with solvent.) |
| I was going crazy from the knock!!! Thanks! | true Apr 19, 2002 11:04 AM | | I wish I'd known this nugget of info earlier. I've spent the better part of the last week taking my drivetrain apart looking for the source of the knock-knock-knock. Even though it sounded like it was coming from the back, I've re-seated and torque-wrenched the BB and every bolt, checked the chain line, re-seated the freewheel-- and I've been going crazy because nothing I've done has helped. I'd bunny-hop or coast and the knocking would go away for a while under light pedaling, but as soon as I'd use any force it would build back up.
I'll be cleaning and then soaking the FW in Redline this weekend.
