Sep 13, 2002 9:48 AM | | I am getting ready to buy a marzocchi for my ss, but I am not sure what is the best buy. Does any one have a MXC-ECC 100mm on their rig? How well do you climb with this fork? I am looking at the 80mm MXR, MXC, or the 100 MXC-ECC. I thought that the ECC would be good for climbing and single track. I really like my rigid fork for climbing, but I would to go faster and be more comfortable on the downhills.

I would recommend the 80mm and love the atom race because it is dependable, bomb proof and handles great. I am on my third one, not because I wore the others out but because I sold one to a friend and the other is on another bike. The other two are 98' year models and still going strong though each on a rebuild. Good luck. |

I wish I could climb seated but my legs are too weak! For what it's worth, I think you can't go wrong with your choice. I've owned plenty of Rock Sucks and Manitou forks, and now all I own are Marzocchi forks. |

Doug designed my Solo Mountaineer for 80mm forks, but I find that my handling is plenty fast even with the longer 100mm travel setup. I bought the 80mm spring kit for the MXC but haven't even bothered trying it!
I think the MXC is one hell of a fork, and is made even better by its obnoxiously low price. |

The lockout works great as long as you cycle the fork up & down a few times before you engage it. It's pretty light, pretty plush, pretty reasonably priced and made in Italy! What more do you want? |

Sep 13, 2002 5:41 PM | | It's similar to the MCX-ECC just lighter, with adjustable dampening (oh and it's prettier :-). Anyway the ECC works great. I use it on all by big climbs and it really helps. Since it locks out compressed, the shock has more lateral stiffness. It has a coil spring which is much better than air if you can live with the weight. The shock on my Bonti was a Super Fly, 70mm air and the Atom 100 puts it to shame. The first ECC cartridge kept creeping up so they sent me a new one. I switched it out. It started doing it again on my first ride but after about an hour of riding it has worked flawlessly since then. I vote 100 MXC-ECC.

Marzocchi '01 X-Fly 80 @ SuperEgo
I've got the 100mm version on one of my bikes and I like it a lot. SuperEgo also has the '01 Zokie 100mm Z3 for $159, possibly an even better deal. I've got a couple of '00 Z3 Flylight 100s, and their performance is just as good as the X-Fly. They just weight a little more and are not externally tunable.

Sep 14, 2002 3:23 PM | | I've been riding the fork that Sparty has pictured in the above post for about 4 months now and I like it a lot. It took a couple weeks to break in and have had no problems with it. Very stiff. Mine weighted 3.5 lbs cut, just in case you care.
BTW, I got mine for $290 from Speedgoat, so that price is pretty good.
