I posted a couple of weeks ago about getting a Peyto SS frame. I saw your
post and it seems we are getting very similar bikes, although I am going with
a suspension fork.
One of the reasons I am going to this bike from my On-One is disc brakes and
I hate having a bike with no quick releases. Forgive me if this is a dumb
question, but I have to ask.
As for wheels, everyone says go with a standard mtb disc wheelset. What do I
do for the rear chain ring? Single ring and spacers? Is there something
here I am missing? Can you remove the freehub on a regular cassette hub and
install some rings of sort?
I dunno and I hope you don't mind helping out a fellow SS'r. Oh, ya, I
thought it would be cool to stay in touch about building up our frames. I am
ordering mine after the thanksgiving break.

Throw on some spacers and your rear cog/ring.
Set your chainline with the spacers.
Tighten up your lockring
Put on bike, adjust chain & brakes.
Go ride |
| a dumb question... | kam Nov 22, 2002 4:37 PM | | is the one never asked. so, i ordered my peyto about 2 weeks ago, i have about 3-4 more weeks of waiting. for now, i'm riding my ebb'd dean. the more i ride it, the more i'll miss her once i get my peyto frame and sell the dean. with a near 36" inseam, the dean's 19" center to top is just abit small. please keep in touch with your order status. i will be posting pics. once i get my frame and once it's built up after i have ridden her.
as for the wheels, i currently am (on my dean)and will be running(on the peyto) a set of hayes superlite disc hubs(has your regular 8/9speed free hub body) laced to a set of velocity vxc rims. very light, very fast and not too expensive. i am using a chris king king cog i bought from webcyclery.com. it's just a cog that has a wide base so it won't dig into aluminum cassette bodies. i use a whole bunch of spacers, fine tune the chainline and then use a regular cassette lockring. work flawlessy and you can tune you chainline pretty easily by moving the cog and spacers around.
if ya need more help or have more q's, just holla! i also will be using a duke xc or sl every now and then, maybe. i just bought a marin mt. vision pro with full xtr , for my bro, that has a crappy mars cl that i'll need to switch out.
also, why didn't you go with the vulture? just curious. i was thinking of vulture too, but he seems really busy. and, once i was the fillet brazing and prices that paul as to offer, i though i'd go with him.
cheers...hope i helped.
