Anybody have a frame built up with those S&S Couplers?(6 posts)

Anybody have a frame built up with those S&S Couplers?MellowCat

I want to start carrying my SS with me all the time in the car. I sell for a living and cover 2 states. I can plan my overnight stays near great trails....but, my bike won't fit inside my car. I hate to have it on a rack all the time traveling, its sure to get ripped. My car is paid for and works great so its seems cheaper for me to order a new frame and have it made with couplers.

Any ideas? Anyone ever use these things? What builders will make a frame with the couplers?

There are several builders that I contacted who would use S&S couplers. The best price deal I found was True North.

Another less expensive and pretty cool option would be the new Ritchey Travel system. Tom Ritchey has a coupling system that is supposed to be easier to use and less expensive than S&S. Curtlo will build you a frame with the Ritchey System and he said it works very well. If I were going to get a SS built for traveling I think the Curtlo would be the way to go.

My wife and I each have an S and S frame. I was lucky to be able to picke each one up for the price of the couplers alone. They're great, but expensive.

If you have a normal round tube ti or steel bike you can have couplers added to it (not in all cases, though). I know Bilenky was advertising retrofit S&S conversions a while ago. I saw a Bridgestone they did and the work was great. I can't remember the price, but it wasn't all that much.
If that won't work, I think S&S has a list of builders on their website.
Good Luck-

Thanks for the responses.

I've sent emails off to a few builders to get ball park pricing. Looks like most people charge $500 for the option. That may be worth it to me.

Thanks,

MC
