| Valid opinoins needed!.. convert or not? | wertico Feb 2, 2003 5:08 PM | | I just picked up a Fisher supercaliber 29"er for a steal and want to convert it to singlespeed, should I just use a singulator type device or have a EBB put into it? this is a U.S. made frame and is disk ready, that is why I was thinking it will be so sweet! |
| EBB coversion not practical for Al frames | shiggy©® Feb 2, 2003 9:50 PM | | You would need to re-heat treat the frame.
I may be possible but at much more cost than a steel conversion. |
| Gene at spicercycles... | Bazz Feb 3, 2003 2:34 AM | | ....but i used to think the same that it wasnt possible or practicle...and have had the discussion with Gene at spicercycles and he has assured me and even sent me pictures of aluminum frames he has converted with an EBB that it was very safe to do it....so i would contact him and see what he says...but he will tell you the same thing he has told me numerous times..that it is very doable!...he told me he has the supplies to do it in stock also....hope that helps! |

| what's that? | moschika Feb 3, 2003 10:39 AM | | is that some sort of bb protector? or brace of some kind? it looks cool and not at the same time. |
| Looks like a trials guard | Brandon Feb 3, 2003 11:35 AM | | It gives something else to rest the bike on to help balance when doing bashring moves. But why someone would use an aluminum frame for trials that had to be modified for SS use is beyond me. |
| not a trials guard | weather Feb 3, 2003 12:49 PM | | the primary purpose is to give some extra insurance in the rare case that the bolts (those bolts are aluminum so as to avoid thread stripping) give. i personally like the idea. |
| Insurance against what? | shiggy Feb 3, 2003 2:49 PM | | I do not see what it would do in the case of the bolts failing.
I do like the idea that the tabs on the BB shell are not threaded and the bolts go clear though. If the bolt thread do strip they are replacable. |
| against | weather Feb 3, 2003 4:20 PM | | possible bolt breaking causing the outer shell to break apart. with this brace at least there is another connection between downtube and chainstays. it won't save the nuts though if the male rider is standing when the bolts break. |
| Sounds like overkill to me | shiggy©® Feb 3, 2003 11:09 PM | | Not that much stress on those bolts. Even if they did break not much would happen. |
| Gene at spicercycles...thanx Bazz, and everyone else! nm. | wertico Feb 3, 2003 5:36 PM | | nm. |
