Red Rock SS Rampage!...(34 posts)

Red Rock SS Rampage!...terminaut
Feb 2, 2003 11:58 PM
Ok, well - maybe not rampage but it sure was a ton of fun nevertheless! A group of us just got back from three days of riding in Arizona's South Mountain and Sedona area and am happy to report that once again we had a phenomenal roadtrip. SS'ers included Andy aka Rut, DaPomp, Hugh, Genny, and myself.

Although I brought along my camera, I never took it out of its case so no pics from me (wanted to just enjoy riding!) this time. Luckily however, Hugh and DaPomp did bring theirs so hopefully many shots will follow to show some of the amazing terrain in AZ.

To start, here are a couple of great shots that Hugh took of my Merlin SS conversion in action... :-)

Lefty and drops...terminaut
Feb 7, 2003 10:20 AM
The plastic internals of the Lefty weren't really designed for doing drops, so on the first 3-footer I did they decided to puke their guts all over the red rock. Yup - the whole upper lockout/spacer mechanism pushed through the opening on the top! Anyways, I've corrected the problem with a custom steel piece that should hold everything in place nicely.

Other than that, the on-the-fly compression/rebound adjustments were outstanding for the changing terrain.

That's some great scenery. You've got those us who live in colder climates drooling and anticipating the arrival of summer.

But then again, we get to play in the mud all winter! :-)

Arizona is one of the best places to ride. I can't wait to go back!! Thanks for the pics.

High fives,

I feel vicariously warmer and dryer already! (My buddy Justin and I went on a slushy 20 miler on Sunday -- we 'bout froze!) Looks like great riding where you were, though. Must be fun to camp out in February...

Dan is new to digital cameras and caught the shot after I'd already landed the huck, but the background scenery is pretty awesome regardless.
