Hey shiggy, it's about the ebb dilema! (3 posts)
| Hey shiggy, it's about the ebb dilema! | wertico1 Feb 4, 2003 3:54 AM | | I talked to Gene at spicer and He likes to put the brace in to reinforce the whole new ebb assembly, not the bolts, He is still in the experimental stage and as this is an actual new bike I am not sure if I want to mangle the frame, what do You think, kinda risky huh? |
| I've seen pics of the design | qtip Feb 4, 2003 8:03 AM | | Gene did an ebb aluminum frame for my buddy menny who posts on this board and is building the frame this week. I won't spoil his news with pictures, but he will post some pictures as soon as he gets it built up. But the brace looks like a trials bash guard, and he still uses the pinch bolts on the split shell. To me it looks like a solid design. He said the brace is necessary with an aluminum ebb with split shell to keep the frame in line and from spreading, apparantly not an issue with steel frames. I was thinking of going for it myself, but then I opted to go for steel. |
| I have never seen a brace on an EBB shell | shiggy Feb 4, 2003 9:02 AM | | I just got off the phone with Co-Motion, one of the biggest tandem builders in the country. They do not use split shells on their Aluminum frames for strength/durability reasons. They use set screws like TwoCircles and Jerico.
I would not have a split shell on an Al frame. In the words of Alan at Co-Motion, "Well, it will work for a while." Even if it has a brace. |
