I have a question on the Country Road Bob.(6 posts)

I have a question on the Country Road Bob.SuperBad
Mar 29, 2003 10:06 AM
I have purchased a frameset for the Van Dessel Country Road Bob on Ebay. Does anyone here happen to know the size/threading of the Bottom bracket on this bike? I am going to set mine up with flat bars and who knows I may do a triathlon or 2 with it. Anyone have a suggestion for a lightweight crank that doesn't cost a fortune.
Thanks for reading,
Bobby

I know that ;) I have a Cannondale road bike I have used in triathlons, but I think this would be the perfect Anti-Tribike. If you have ever checked out the bikes in a transition area you know the average price for bikes there must be $3000 or more. I would love to pass a few people on a lime green single speed that will cost less than most competitors wheelsets. It would also make it easier for my wife to spot me. I live in Florida and I will be gearing it for flatland riding. I will be running it with a freewheel, I know I couldn't do a tri on a fixie...yet!

Did you get yours from VWDoublecab on eBay?

I bought mine from him in-person since I live close. Great frame but I have not yet had time to build mine up. I did ride one at a LBS and it is not the lightest frame out there. Even if you put on some light wheels and parts the frame is still rather beefy.

Here is the email and response from VDS....

What size and threading does the CRB need?
English, italian, or oversized english? (68mm, 70mm, 0r 73mm)
thanks.

Thanks for the info. Yes I did get it from him. It was so darned cheap and I have lots of stuff to throw on it already. Mostly just need cranks and wheels. I am not expecting it to be a superlight ride, just a fun one.

BTW,
Setapost is 27.2
seatpost clamp is 31.8

I bought mine to be a single-speed commuter so I am building up some nice strong wheels with Shimano DX BMX cassette 36hole hubs and Mavic T221 Cyclo-cross/Touring rims and an RSX crank I got for real cheap on eBay. Everything else, and I mean everything else, is going to be Nashbar's house brand...brakes, bars, stem, seatpost, saddle, etc.

I want all the parts to be very black with the Neon green frame and look so cheap that nobody will want to steal it.

Remember to post pics when you are finished with yours.
