| Memorial Day Weekend Ride in Mamaland | Chequama Mama May 24, 2003 9:58 PM | | Today (Saturday) 4 singlespeed brethren converged on Telemark Resort in Cable, Wisconsin, in the center of the the land of the Mama. Our mission was simple really, to ride cool singletrack. And ride the singletrack we did. We rode the not quite completed ojibwe trail, which had a bit of everything. One super sweet, flow-ey decent, lots of fun climbing (so I'm a little wierd), some rocks, some tight spots, meadows, woods, mountains (ok, no mountains).
It was a rather sunny day, as you'll be able to see from the pictures. Beautiful temperatures for May in Northern Wisconsin, and the mosquitoes are just starting to come out!
mtnbykr (Kurt), happy cause he's cruising'some wonderful singletrack
Here's Breezer (dog) followed by Karl, through a sweet section under the pines. sorry its a bit blurry, but the spot was cool.
Karl riding a nice little rock, we took a bunch of pictures here.
Chris w/Breezer in tow
Karl, going the other way over the rock, despite the appearance caused by my really bad timing with taking this picture, he actually did ride this without dabbing.
Chris on the rocks, breezer in the supporting role
mtnbykr over the rock his 29er SS
mtnbykr cruisin again
I might as well apologize right now, I'm horrible with names, I might have gotten Chris and Karl mixed up, or even have their names completely wrong.
Stats from Today's ride
Mamas sighted: 1 (me)
Times Breezer puked: 1.5 billion
Percentage of 'Cuda SSs (vs all others) on the ride: 50
Times I fell down in 5 minutes: 4 (ok, so maybe I'm exagerating by one, maybe)
Miles covered: Ummm, riiiiight
Wood ticks that Karl pulled off himself: 4
It was good times, boys and girls |
| Great pictures. | Nukinpader May 25, 2003 7:46 AM | | How does this trail stack up against Rock Lake? Hope to get back up there real soon and try out the the trail. |
| Great pictures. | Chequama Mama May 25, 2003 7:15 PM | | Truthfully I dunno how it stacks up to Rock Lake. My memories of Rock Lake aren't very clear. I've only ridden the Rock Lake Trail proper like once I think. Sorry.

| Great pictures. | Nukinpader May 25, 2003 7:51 PM | | My in-laws have a cabin up on Grindstone Lake just outside of Hayward. Whenever we are in their neck of the woods I make a point of hitting the Rock Lake Trail. It really does rock. I think I'll have to add another trail to my "must do rides when I visit the in-laws" list. Once again, thanks for the info. |
| rock lake vs ojibwe.... | mtnbykr© May 26, 2003 3:33 AM | | imo, the ojibwe is hands down the winner if you want technical singletrack. when the o's done, it'll be the star of the telemark area. not enough singletrack on the rock lake trail for me. it does have a nice, fast flow and more scenery. the new rock lake trail should be better than the old. it'll be most all singletrack-type trail, not ski trail.
let us know next time your in the area, nukinpader. we could meet up and ride...

| Greatness! | Spar¡cus May 25, 2003 8:59 AM | | It looks all good, except for the part about the ticks and skeeters. Personally, I don't like parasites much, but at least the insect kind are better than the human variety.
Way nice lookin' trail! Now come out west for some mountains.

P.S. We've got ticks & skeeters out west, too. |
