| Wheelbuilders | Zak May 27, 2003 4:41 AM | | Well, I finally did it, I wore through the sidewalls of my 517's which are laced to 1x1 hubs. Now I have a problem, I need wheels for my race coming up Saturday. Who do you guys recommend for building SS wheels??? Or can I do this myself?? I can do any other work on my own bikes, including truing wheels, but I have yet to try to build a set of wheels from scratch. I need two answers, Who to contact to BUY a SS wheelset, and how difficult is it to build a set of my own for the first time.
Thanks in advance.

I've also built some wheels for myself. If you can true your own wheels, you're probably capable of building your own. However, my first few wheels were learning experiences - for example, I learned that if spokes don't have enough tension they'll loosen all at once.

I'm sure your capable of doing it but you need to take your time on the first set and make sure everything is right. A few things to help build a wheel is of course a wheel truing stand and I love my tensionometer. Great way to double check the wheel for a great balanced tension. They stay in true a ton longer that way.
I'm sure if you have any trouble you can always post a question here!
