| carbon bars on singlespeeds | toejam Jul 23, 2003 6:36 AM | | Considering replacing an Easton aluminum riser bar on my DISS with and EA 70 monkylite carbon. Anyone use these - I'd be interested in getting an opinion. Too bendy, breaky? Achy? Going lite as possible.
Greetings from Cheyenne. |
| I'm using Monkeylite XC's and they are great for this Fat guy... | 82%bodyfat Jul 23, 2003 6:43 AM | | They add a little compliance to the ride and are not that flexy.
Go for it!

| re: carbon bars on singlespeeds | Timan Jul 23, 2003 8:03 AM | | If the bike still has a rigid fork, I highly recommend the carbon LP dh bar. Light, strong with a bit of "give" to absorb shock. It is a very popular bar with socal SS'ers. |
| Yes, absolutely the LP riser. | lurker who needs to register Jul 23, 2003 9:19 AM | | I got one of these along with a frame I bought used and put it on an old rigid bontrager(with origional fork, yea) in order to replace a 118 ti flat bar and bring my position upwards and back since I am running a suspension corrected frame w/ a non-corrected fork. I am amazed at how much this thing absorbs the small vibrations. The bike went from being a punishing ride to a quick handling but smooth ride. I have since sold off a monkeylite from my hardtail and replaced it with a second LP.
The LP is actually a thermoplastic and I know nothing beyond my own experience as to it's properties vs straight carbon. The easton bar has an aluminum base wrapped in carbon so I think the aluminum imparts a lot of the feel to the monkeylite. At 210gr for a DH strong bar that rides this nice, I can't think of anything that beats the LP. |

| Maxm....... | KMan Jul 23, 2003 8:44 AM | | I have been using the Maxm 24" low rise bar since early spring with great success. I prefer Maxm components over Easton and Maxm can be had for less $$$$ ($77.99) @ http://catalog.bicycleblowout.com/site/intro.cfm?PageID=37&Description=&Brand=1524&Submit.x=8&Submit.y=7

| Riding one on my SS for two years, nice bar. | Roger__ Jul 23, 2003 10:07 AM | | pretty expensive though. If it hadn't come with the bike, probably would have opted for something cheaper. |

| Works fine, seems sturdy enough, but... | terminaut Jul 23, 2003 2:09 PM | | The thing about carbon is it scratches easily so you have to be careful with it. For that reason I've stopped using them... They did match up perfect (performance-wise) with my Ti Mojo though.

| Easton or MaxM | Fast Freddy Jul 23, 2003 6:07 PM | | For the past 3 years I've ran a Monkeylite Carbon bar on something - most recently my Giant SS Convert. Liked it so much that when I got my Heckler no doubt - bought another.... the new SS I have I went with a MaxM MX6 bar - because it is WIDE (27").... and I was a little skeptical at first because it wasn't an Easton - but man I love it... and it weighed it at 165 grams - must be something to that Isorigid thing that have! Either one Easton or MaxM I don't think you can go wrong - and the MaxM is on a fully rigid SS!
