found at www.forge-mtb.com (the website doesnt like me- hopefully you will have better results)

Doesn't your rear derailleur keep the chain on your gears? I ride an old cannondale 1 x 7, and I don't seem to have any issues... Seems like a waste of money to me.

my 1x8 setup on my dean drops the chain, and I do have as many links taken out as possible for the biggest gear- its only when I seem to want to go fast that the chain drops.
Overkill, and who wants that drag?DancingBear

I ran a chainguide for a while, but the noise and drag were annoying. I've been using a front derailleur for over a year and have yet to drop the chain.
What makes you think there's drag?Ichabod

the center of the bolt appears to be well above the top of the chain from that photo. I suspect the wheel bit with the brand name on it has two lip bits that go on each side of the chain bit, and then a bit that's machined out in the middle so there's no drag.

there is no drag during normal operation. Here's the e-mail quote:

"Chuck,
Our Ringpull does not contact the chain during normal operation (so NO friction). But sits silently until the chain tries to jump off, when it is then restricted in its movement & thus remains on the chainring.

cheers,

So, I guess it merely acts like the N'Gear jump stop (instead of a DH or DS chainguide), but I guess keeps it from going to either side which is good thing for us that run the Sufferings and similar spider-less chainring.

They will ship to the US, but the price is not cheap.

No affiliation, yada yada.
outer bashring, inner jump-stop and you're good to go. NMscrublover

i think this or the n-gear jumpstop/bashring set up would work pretty good. forge makes sum pretty cool stuff. and, i also had alot of trouble with their website today, and have had trouble in the past. i'm really itching to build a 1x8/9 with a castellano fango frame. can this set up really cause that much drag, i can't imagine it being more than something like a singleator or convert.
cheers.
kind of like it.kevl

I think it looks good. I've considered getting one and making my gearie commuter into a 1x9.

I couldn't tell from the text on the site, would it actually roll with the moving chain, or does it sit about the chain and just act as a guide?

and had terrible chain jumping tendancies prior to getting an N-Gear jump stop. No chain jumping issues any longer. It seems like it'd be a bit lighter and simpler than the Forge set up. The Forge looks like its aimed more at the DS crowd.

Just converted an old Cannondale to a 1x7 this past weekend.
No such device -- chain stays on fine so far...

Although I don't care that much for the aesthetics of it (finnicky designer), I think its a novel solution and about the only solution if your running a suffering. I considered fabricating something like that, until I decided on a bashguard and Third Eye Chain Stop thing. It was $7.50 from REI, what a deal! It is, however a small piece of plastic, so it may be the greatest rip off ever, but my chain never comes off anymore. I tried running a 36 tooth ring sans any chain keeping stuff, but there was just NO way my chain was gonna stay on. I'm really diggin' the 1x9 thing, it is the perfect alternative to my singlespeed. The convenience of gears without the complexity of two derailleurs. It shifts so smooth, I've never had any mechanicals.

I'd like to see some pics of your rig...

Im probably going to be getting one of these dealies from forge, so, more pics when installed!
Sufferring is on the Airborne SS...kyezle

and a Salsa ring is on the Jericho 1x9. I was going to run XTRs with a Jericho ring, but got a smokin' deal on some Race Face Turbines, so i opted for 5-bolt rings. Lotsa gear options and much cheaper.
