It's shaping up to be a SS gathering of sorts.

What gear do you plan on running? I'm thinking that the 2:1 would work, but I may drop up to a 17 due to the ridgeline climbing and Council Bluffs Lake

I'm gonna run 34-18 with big fatties (2.5's). It's gonna be cool and stuff (beavis again).

2:1 is good for council bluffs...the shit that's not rideable on a SS isn't rideable on a regular bike either.
if you all bring your SS's to berryman, bring big ol honkin tires and I am serious about that. The already-scarce topsoil has all but left the trail surface leaving a path that is comparable to a drainage ditch in a lot of places. no I am not talking about one shitty section but lots and lots of them. I don't want to discourage anyone from coming, but please bring whatever tool seems right for the job (in my case, boingy boingy Titus). Trust me you will have WAY more fun.
Oh yeah, Route 66 Bike Shop (closest to the trail) isn't open sunday (b/c Dan-o gots to ride) so if you all have any serious mechanicals please do so before 5:00 pm on saturday.

What's a Bonktoberfest without flaming pumkins. I rode both Berryman and CBL last year on a SS with a 32:17 or 18 and my ride was fine. I expect to be in much better shape this year, so I'm thinking a 2:1. I've considered dropping down to a 32:15 for the local KC trails.

Don't worry about wrenching. There are 4-5 mechanics from bike shops in KC that attend. In addition, there are typically 5 million or so members of the National Mountian Bike Patrol that you are riding with, and of course, if you're riding a SS, then your mechanical concerns are further minimized.

The bigger concern is beer. There aren't very many beer stores close by, and by far the most popular beer is that St. Louis microbrew, Budweiser. Yummy. Be sure to pack some decent beer, kids.

I rode Berryman over Memorial Day weekend in a 32:16 and it was fine. It was super wet that weekend, but other than that it was a blast. There might even be a couple of mechnaics from Springfield and Tulsa there for Bonktoberfest this time.

We were camped there last Memorial day. Did you see a big white VW Camper?

what happened to the trail?retch

The Berryman Trail seemed almost indestructable to me because of its design. What happened? Sounds like it was used while wet.
spring rains happenediliketoridebikes

and lots of them. then horses happened right after the spring rains. there is one spot where the trail is built on a cut-bank of a creek, and some of the bank got washed out and now the trail is nearly gone right there. maybe it'll fix itself, but I really think that trail could use some more support from the state, or forest service, or state parks system....

I hear he's training like mad to make sure that he can pedal (not walk) the Berryman.

When is this? Where? In CB? which trail? Just north of there about 6 hours. What type of event is this? race? or insane persons who enjoy SS? I'll be there with Toro.

This is the weekend of October 11 at the Berryman campground in Potosi, MO. The Council Bluffs Lake Trail is about 10 miles from the Berrymman trail. The berryman is a 23 mile trail that is registered as an IMBA Epic trail.

There's a bunch of Midwestern Hellbilly's that are heading down to ride, drink, ride, drink some more and light a bunch of shit on fire. At least that's how it usually works out.

Plenty of SS folks, but there will be plenty of geared riding as well.

CB Lake may be 10 miles as the crow flies, but it seemed like it took about an hour one way for me to get there & back via Potosi. Do you know a short cut?

it takes about 20 minutes to get there. I can't remember the specific directions. we rediscover the route every year. Perhaps we drink too much?

Ken
why not just ride there?iliketoridebikes
Jul 24, 2003 10:13 AM
the short cut is pretty bomber in car...but wouldn't be too bad on a bike. if several people did it and then used the ozark trail to drop into the council bluffs trail (avoiding the $3 gate fee), then the collective money saved would buy at least a few cases.

I suppose we could. After much more than 20 miles per day, I'm pretty cooked. I may opt for the pussy sag.

I'll see how it goes.

I'll show up for this one. SOunds like the campground will be full to overflowing this year. See you all there!

Peace,

Patrick

P.S. I ride a 34:18 out there and it works well enough for me.
