| Anyone running the 2.4 Mutano Raptor Race? | LiteSpeed_2 Jul 27, 2003 7:20 AM | | I noticed some folding with low pressure (18-22psi) when I hit the turns hard. Of course I could increase the pressure, but a friend of mine is running the regular wire beaded Mutano Raptors and he is heavyer than me and this does not happen to him. My weight is around 156lbs.
Just curious if anyone has noticed this. |
| Mutano 2.4 race has a paper thin sidewall which I'm guessing | 2farfrwd Jul 27, 2003 9:14 AM | | would fold over very easily at really low pressure. The wire bead (heavier version) your buddy is riding most likely has a thicker sidewall and a bit more rubber. I was running a WTB 2.5 Weirwolf and I kept folding it over on the rocks and pinch flatting. I wasn't running really low pressure, but I am 24olbs. Just switched back to the slightly heavier 2.4 motoraptor, and its working like a dream. |
| Yep. Nope. | Ichabod Jul 28, 2003 10:33 AM | | I haven't noticed the folding to which you allude, but I have had two (2) pinch flats since I put those tires on, and that's more than I'd usually have in a season. I usually run pretty low tire pressure, but with the MutanoBlaBlas I've stuck with about 30 PSI, plus I put one of those green French pinch flat tubes in the back recently.
I weigh about 175 and ride in the Front Range of Colorado. I like the performance of the tires, they break away and drift a little more than I was expecting in loose corners (like Buffalo Creek style decomposed red granite stuff), but it was predictable after the first corner. |
| I have them on both bikes | ibis_ss Jul 28, 2003 1:06 PM | | and have been using them for 6 months now. I weigh 145 and have had only a few problems. On very sharp rocky terrain I have punctured the casing and torn the sidewall (tore sidewall this weekend doing downhills at mammoth, a tough terrain for a "race" tire) I use 30-35 psi with few pinch flats but I am running stans tubeless and the casing has punchered wide enough the I had to put in a tube and patch the tire later. Was in Donnevile for the MTBR thing and had zero problems with the tires. I like the high air volume and wide casing of the tire. It holds well in most situations and rolls very fast. The light weight is great for climbing but you will sacrafice in durability. I guess you have to chose which is more important to you. After the last sidewall tear in mammouth, I am going to try the weirwolf 2.5. Hope this helps. |
