| Tensioner q? and a short story | Sexly Sep 20, 2003 2:59 PM | | So I am riding to the LBS on the SS the other day to get some wrenches to adjust the tensioner, and I notice that the headset is also loose. Really loose. Then I notice the front cog is wobbling badly. Next comes the chain skip, and my favorite all, the chain starts slapping. Great so here I am in a very bad neighborhood nowhere near the LBS and my bike is falling apart. I swear I made it there on a prayer.
They actually let me use a stand and straightened my front cog, tightened my headset and let me play with my tensioner and borrow their wrenches (they were out of 15's and 19's in the store). Anyways I ordered the wrenches but my question to you all is why I have to keep adjusting the tensioner. I know some of it is due to chain stretch, but my chain is rather beefy and there is still some good slack even on the highest tension. The guys at the shop said it would be too short if I remove a link and I tend to agree.
Any thoughts? It hasn't dropped the chain since yesterday and I have been riding it pretty hard, but I can't help but feel this will happen again, and again... |
