Teesdale reborn!(15 posts)

Teesdale reborn!DAS

Fed up with my scratched Teesdale frame, I sent it into Dauenhauer powder coaters in Santa Rosa for a fresh look. It looks much better! This is the same candy apple red that I had my Phil Wood painted (now Cygnus's bike). They also did my Ibis Spanky, and they do all Soulcraft, Sycip, and Jericho bikes. Awesome job.

Powder coating is Dauenhauer, in case you're interested.

How much was it? Cheap! Around $120, including fork, which I'm putting on the Chester...more on that later.

I wasn't planning on putting decals on it. I'll think it over. Does anyone know where I can have custom decals made?

DAS: that's very nice, a major upgrade in color and durability. here's your old pw frame before built I built it as an SS mt bike, and, more recently, as a street hot rod.

Great paint job and thanks for the info on the painter. Price is great too and it looks like they paint for some of the best builders.

Yes, Tom T. should powdercoat or at least offer it as an alternative to auto paint IMO. His frames are really fine - I've seen several of them. About the only negative I can think of for powder is if you buy a used frame in a powdercoat you don't like, it's a beach to strip.

Buy some paint stripper from the hardware store. That stuff works great at taking off even powdercoating. It's nasty stuff though so wear gloves and be prepared to wash off any that gets on you.
strangely, i'm craving Luden's cough drops now. very nice. nmthe Inbred

Are you implying the Teesdale paint does not hold up well? How long did you have your frame before it started to scratch?

I hope your answer is "a while"!!!

The auto paint did not work for me. It was very pretty but scratched too easily. I guess I was not careful enough, also, and therefore I did most of the scratching everytime I worked on my bike. As you can see it scratched from cable rub as well. I have had the bike for 1.5 years.

Also, I've heard that Teesdale offers powder coat these days.

Maybe auto paint works fine for careful people, and/or people with road bikes. Powder coat is much better for me...I like bomb proof.

Thanks for the update. I have one on the way and it is painted. He does offer powder coat, but I thought the paint would be good.

I am not real careful either, so I guess I will be visiting the powder coating gods myself in a year!

Glad to hear they ride well. I cannot wait for it to arrive.
