What disc brake for older Trek??(2 posts)

What disc brake for older Trek??headshok
Jan 13, 2004 8:02 PM
I am buying a Trek 8000 that is a couple of years old. It doesn't have the IS mounts but it does have the mounting holes on the left chainstay. What do I need to get to make discs work? I am thinking I will probably go with Avid mechanical discs, but not sure yet. Any help is appreciated.

You have a hayes specific mount on that bike, I have the same mount on my 8k. You can you with hayes (I think hydro only). There may be an adaptor to convert to ISO, I doubt it though. As there isn't enough clearence. You probably won't be able to run the Avid mechs.
