Performed for my first audience!!!(8 posts)

Performed for my first audience!!!Dog Welder

Too bad the b@stards gave me a ticket afterwards. I just started to get my rear wheel hop and a couple other basics when these bike cops (i know the irony sucks) ride up and start watching me. About 2 minutes later the ride up and slap me a ticket for "riding my BMX bike" around city hall. Turns out BMX is illegal because of the grinding but these idiots would not recognize that 1. my trials bike isn't a BMX bike, 2. I don't have pegs to grind with. 85 bucks down the drain.

That sucks! I'm assuming its a mod bike? Yeah, I can see how they got it confused with a BMX...I mean the bars, brakes, cranks and bashplate all look the same. Fa kin idiots.

My favorite was the bike cop who rode up to me on the sidewalk to tell me not to ride on the sidewalk. "Oh, so you're above the law."

Or the cop who hasseled me and three friends for sitting on our bikes in the middle of a field near city hall. The area is notorious for people selling drugs, and on our way into the park we had been asked 5 times if we wanted to buy "weed", "buds", or whatever else. The cop walked though all this to tell us not to ride our bikes in this area, and didn't understand why I started laughing at him. "I'm only a small island in the ocean" was his reply to my "why arn't you busting all the drug dealers insteed of picking on people who are getting exercise?"

Or the bike cop who was going to ticket me for riding on a parkbench until he found out I worked at a local shop. Then he let me off the $80 ticket if I gave him $80 off a bike he had been looking at.

how about the, "hey hey, get over here NOW.....what do you think your do-, WHOA nice bike man....damn, that thing is sweet"...."do you think you could show me some stuff, I DIDNT tell you to do this ok". Me and my buddy bullshitted with him for about 30 minutes....he was a bike cop, so I guess he understood. The cops are normally pretty damn cool to us, they will at LEAST warn us before they slap me a ticket. My biggest problem is riding without a light, my excuse EVERY DAMN TIME, "officer, we got lost up in the hills on a XC ride, we are on our way home". Ive gotten like 20 warnings, the xc ride excuse works every time. A couple weeks ago we ran into another bike cop, he stopped and was checking out our bikes, the downhill ones, and asked us, "are you guys dropping off this ledge"..."of COURSE not officer". So we bullshitted with him for 45 minutes while he smoked and told us he needed to get into better shape....cool guy though. Im down with bike cops, at least compared to 'normal' cops....they normally understand the need to ride. But there is always the bad apple....

hehe, surprisingly I've had pretty good experiences with cops. There was only one time when this bikecop (hehe, it always the bikecops) stopped me and a buddy for riding on the sidewalk on the way back from the bikeshop and continued to give me a $120 ticket for not wearing a helmet (yep that's right helmet nazi's, I wasn't wearing a helmet while riding on the sidewalk, give me hell). All of my other experiences pertaining to cops have been pretty positive, just go when they tell you to move on

Hey Redger what city do you live in? In LA they have helmet laws but apparently they only pertain to under 18 year olds.

Regder, aren't you from Toronto? Did that cop totally screw you, or are you under 18? Yow...have we been getting advice from a kid? Haha, your advice is still golden either way don't worry.

that's right, I'm in Toronto and I'm 18. Now you guys have a valid reason to discard my views and advice :)

take it to court and explain to the judge what happened and what you do. throw in the you compete as well, they like that, and you should get off.
