| Good looking frame! | Optikal Dec 14, 2001 12:26 PM | | I disagree with the original part though...the front end looks similar to their old bike, but the rear end looks like its a direct copy of the Zebdi. I mean, look at those dropouts and the little gusset at the seatstay/top tube.
But then again, there are only so many ways to built a bike.
Good job, Echo, for bringing a good product to the market with a great price. |
| Interesting | Brant Dec 14, 2001 1:58 PM | | The Zebdi seatstay bridge is actually a box section tube, not a flat plate as on the echo frame. |
| Ahh yes | Optikal Dec 15, 2001 8:39 AM | | I think I must have been drunk when I made that post.
I checked my Zebdi and you were right (Gee, its almost like you designed the damn thing!)...It was the Brisa B26 that I was thinking of.
Also about the price. I was thinking Canadian dollars, not US. So yeah, its pretty pricy. But still looks pretty cool none the less, and I would definatly like to try one. |
| Good looking frame! | Regder Dec 14, 2001 2:07 PM | | I'd say it's fairly original for Echo, a company that has done nothing but emulate their competition's designs and geometry in the past. Ground breaking it's not, but I kinda dig it.
The top tube has a hardly noticeable bend to it, a departure from the past, and the huge bottom gusset is completely new though it does remind me significantly of the on-one gimp. The rear end sports chainstays around 15" (way too short in my eyes). The dropouts can be found on a multitude of bikes other than planet x (hell I know of a prototype frame that is over a year old that has the same dropouts), it is most likely just one company producing them and everyone buying from that company. The seatstay junction is actually more closely related to the Orange than the planet x, it's actually one of the few things about the echo that I like.
The last part of your post I completely disagree with, good price? They sell their junk at the exact same price as most other trials companies, making it average priced. Actually overpriced when you consider what they are going for in China, $100 american!!! I was speaking to one of their foreign distributors and he was saying that Echo forces the distributors to charge the much higher price and buy the stuff at a higher cost price. The reason is that the products were designed for the Chinese market to appeal to those who could not afford the other products, they figured they could make some money off the foreign market. |
