What is the guy in the twilight zone pic doing? Is he about to just throttle his way up that, or what?

he's doing a front wheel hook, splatter, whatever you want to call it. Basically hit the rear tire on the obstacle as hard as you can (hence his suspension being bottomed out and the twilight effect), then throw your body forwards towards the handlebars and lift the rear up. There are a few trials riders that also do this, for the most part pros only.

The manoever puts a lot of pressure on the fork and many individuals have snapped their steer tubes/frames/ovalized head tubes/etc. as a result. Hell I know of one pro rider who shot his fork around twenty feet when the steer tube failed on him doing the above. Ask AndyT, I think he tried it once and didn't like the feeling too much :)

goddam it, not working for me either. Was working fine last night though, I'll poke around and see if I can find a different host to toss it onto.

I live in colorado but I'm home in new jersey for a month off college and there isn't too much real close to me to ride on (within riding distance that is). So I built a bunch of stuff up in the barn to ride on (mainly out of palletes). I've been trying to get good at that damn front wheel hook but it has been giving me bad omens. I have a 50" high stack of palletes up against a wall that I try to get up onto. Some of my more interesting injuries during the past week have been bailing and landing square on my balls on the tire and bailing and landing all force on one of my toes and breaking it on the landing. You have to go pretty fast at the object- do a bunnyhop and try to make sure your front wheel gets to lay on top of the object (below it is bad!) and push down right when you slam your rear wheel into it- You push down to get the hook feeling. Then it takes a while to get the feeling of jumping up to your bashring but you have to time it with when you hit the wall and your tires deflate so you take advantage of the "rebound". This is much easier to do on something slanted with something at the top where your front wheel can hook onto it- like a ledge or a triangle shaped top- because you really get some good grip on it (see in the picture, how his front wheel is hooked around it?). That is Ot Pi right? Hope I've helped.
