ck hubbenny

I have a new chris king rear hub. i have ridden it for about 20 minutes, just casually, no pedal kicks yet. it is not as noisy as some of the other ck rear hubs i have heard. does that mean that i have adjusted the cone too tight?

The cones adjust how tight the bearings are, and don't really have anything to do with the freehub body, which is what makes the clicking sound. If it's quieter than other king hubs, that probably means they used a different lubricant, or more of it, inside the freehub. It's not really anything to worry about unless you notice your engagement skipping, which could mean that whatever is lubricating the freehub is too thick to allow the pawls to react quickly enough to engage.
Don't worry..AndyT

Just wait- as time goes on the king will get louder and louder. Just take her apart and clean it up and it gets quiet again...but who wants that!!

don't worry about. King sells their hubs overpacked with grease from the factory, that's likely to be causing your quiet buzzing. Don't worry about it. As you continue riding the grease will spread throughout the ringdrive and some will escape past the cones (this is perfectly normal) and your hub will get louder. If you are using the hand procedure I don't think you can overtighten it, however if you are using the king tools there's a chance. I don't think it would affect the noise though.
