| bars & stems | Tommot Dec 25, 2001 2:52 PM | | ive heard that some bars and stems are wider than others, eg brisa & megamo, meaning you cant use "normal" bars with them.
so i was just wondering
1) is this true?
2) are the brisa & megamo bars the same diameter (at the stem interface)
3) can i get a shim to use my bars with a megamo stem?
Thanks

I'm not 100% sure on this, and I'm sure redger can help you out much better with less spelling mistakes :P The brisa's were 29" but a few of them had some snapping issues so the new ones are 28". Echo is making a stem that is almost identical to the megamo stock stem but without bolts to hurt your knee so you may want to look into that. Sorry I can't answer your questions too well- have a good one.

Monty/Echo/Megamo all use 31.8mm (I think, don't hold me to that) and Brisa runs a 28.6mm (again not 100% sure) clamp, differing from the norm of 25.4mm (100% sure).
As far as I know nobody is offering shims so that you can swap bulge bars between the two diameters, or run a regular bar in a bulge stem.
p.s. Brisa has alternated between 28 and 29" and are currently at 29", the 2002 Monty bars are 28", and I'm pretty sure that the Megamo's are 27". |
| re: bars & stems | Tommot Dec 26, 2001 3:32 PM | | might be wrong, but the reason that some brisa bars are different lengths, is because the wider ones (with more leverage) kept snapping (there were a lot of cases) so shops cut them down to 28" or less, so that they would essentially be stronger, and they could honour the guaruntee.
or something. |
| re: bars & stems | Regder Dec 26, 2001 10:08 PM | | here is the timeline as I understand it:
Brisa releases original bars that are 29" wide, they go snap crackle pop
Brisa releases revised version of original bars, 28" and thicker, still snap crackle and pop, but less
Brisa releases Elite bars, 7071AL (I think), still thick, 29", 360gr., look really damn cool, verdict is still out on their performance but they look very promising |
