| Zebdi MK V owners...I'm thinkin' about getting one..opinions | nydave Oct 9, 2003 10:37 PM | | It would be my first urban/trials bike. Is it a good choice or do you recommend something else instead? No big stairgaps or dirt jumps stuff (maybe little ones), but I'd like it to manual easy plus help me in the trials type skills learning stages. Mean Todd has a great frame/fork deal too. Thanks... |
| re: got a first year model..i love it | thad(earthworm)thadthetroll Oct 10, 2003 8:59 AM | | just doing very basic stuff to help my mtn. bike skills. Im very pleased with Planet X... |
| Thoughts | EricTheRed Oct 13, 2003 8:58 PM | | I have the MKIV and its a great frame. I also am a begginer and use trials to help improve other forms of biking. Things i've noticed w/ my setup (rigid fork non-suspension corrected, and 105mm stem) is that its pretty hard to get into a manual. However if i start off on the back wheek and do a little kick and let go of the breaks, like cheating into a manual it feels pretty twitchy(ie very hard to find the sweet spot), probably due to not having a long fork and not having alot of rotaional inertia w/ both wheels not spinning very quickly. I think if i were to set it up again i would go w/ a little longer fork for better urban performance, but i'm the one holding back the bike, not the other way around. |
| yep.. | thad(earthworm)thadthetroll Oct 14, 2003 9:01 AM | | The Planet x Knifen is 400mm axle to crown..a 415 or so would be nice, or the surly instigator ,it`s 440ish i think.... |
| Thanks for info...I ordered one yesterday... | nydave Oct 16, 2003 8:17 AM | | Teamplanetx.com had a deal I couldn't pass up. Frame, fork, bar and stem for $485, complete truvativ holzfeller trials crank w/22t chainring and bashguard for an extra $65. |
| you won't be let down | Muq Oct 30, 2003 11:44 PM | | You'll love it, I think it's one of the best trials frames there is (besides Mikes...the DeSalvo frame is just beautiful). I got my Mk V from MeanTodd a week ago and I love it. The only problem was I took my Kona Buldge cranks off my street/DJ bike and put them on here and the first day I was doin a heli and they snapped at the weld :( bummer. another 3 week wait, but it's worth it. |
| cool... | nydave Oct 31, 2003 9:40 PM | | what kind of brakes, tires, and hub/rims are you using? I threw the stuff off my xc ride just to get the feel of the bike, but now I have to spend the bucks to get the proper stuff. I got a Stinky all built up for dh too, but I refuse to steal parts off of it. |
| specs | Muq Nov 3, 2003 10:37 PM | | Right now I'm running XT hubs laced to Alex DX 32 rims with 14 G spokes. I think that they have a good strength to weight ratio, but if you ride really hard (hard landings, big drops, etc.) then I'd try something else. I'm running IRC kujo DH 2.35s front and back, they hook up really good and have the best pinch flat protection of any tire in my opinion. They're a bit heavy, but I think that the protection makes up for it. Brake-wise, I have an 8 inch avid disc (off my p.3) in the front with an Avid SD-7 lever (awesome combination). In back I'm running the HS-33, which I think is the norm for trials riders. My friend Jeremy VanSchoonhoven runs just regular shimano deore v brakes w/ a soft compound pad (I think) and ground rims and it seems to work great for him. He's the North American #1 trials rider. If you need anyother just shoot me an email muuqi@hotmail.com since I don't really go through these forums that much. Hope this helped! |
| specs | palyplayer Nov 4, 2003 2:44 PM | | here's mine I built it up like a week ago, since then I have gotten plaz pads light grind longer knifen fork, longer stem and put panaracer fire dh on the back |
| nice ride... | nydave Nov 5, 2003 1:44 AM | | I'm still waitin' for some stuff to arrive. Looks like you went SS there too. I guess those are the plaz crv's ?? I got PlanetX's Sticky pads, but I see in other forums that people weren't too impressed with them. I'd like to not have to grind my wheels. Do you think those pads would work okay with machined brake surface rims? What BB did you go with and what is the length of those cranks? I haven't got any tires yet...still tryin' to decide what to get. |
| nice ride... | PalyPlayer Nov 5, 2003 11:04 AM | | I'm actually running spanishflys with no grind, all I did was sand the rims down(like a deep cleaning) and it works great. I am currently running an old bontrager crank with square taper bb only because my isis won't fit because of a small ridge in the bb shell that I have to dremmel down. Which might happen to you too. I'm going to put some truvativ cranks(170mm) on soon with a isis dh bb. I just keep my rims clean and they work fine, and be prepared to hear sqeaking with trials brakes. I really like my panaracer dh fire pro rear tire, they last long and have very strong side walls and my last one lasted almost 2 years. |
