| will discs bust my xc frame? | generic name no one has Nov 28, 2003 11:36 PM | | Im not a real trials rider by any means but I like to practice some of the moves for fun and to be able to ride through anything on a trail. If I put discs on my bike will doing rear wheel hops and similar stuff on occasion bust my cross country frame? Its a new Trek 8500. Thanks |

When you are dropping off a 4' drop the last thing you need to worry about is your brakes breaking your frame... the impact from a drop is going to be a lot greater than any force your disc brakes can exude. |

| YES | hectolyte Dec 1, 2003 1:45 PM | | trials frames designed for rear disc brakes cannot withstand the forces of a rear disc. THEY ALL BREAK. An XC frame will brake even faster. Don't do it. |
| YES | jojo Dec 2, 2003 10:15 AM | | This is true, especially when hopping on the back wheel. Back wheel hopping puts forces on the disc tabs that they were never intended to withstand.
But at least if the disc tab breaks, you can go back to using rim brakes. |
