Should I be looking at certains bikes, because of my size, or will most bikes accomodate a large rider? Also, what type of frame and fork should I be looking for? Thanks.

I'm 6'5 205 and looking for a new bike too. I can give you some advice based on what I have now and what I am planning to test ride. The thing is that not all bike models are going to fit you perfectly, but there are a bunch out there. One thing to consider right off the bat is that the springs will have to be changed in any shock that you get to a firm or x-firm kit. Most suspensions are designed for someone around 175 pounds max. I use a firm kit in my manitou.

The main things you will need out of the frame are a long top tube (for your long upper body) and a decent size for the seat tube (at least 21 inches I would guess) for your long legs. It really depends on your inseam. Head tube height is also a factor, but most manufacturers don't go over 6 inches, although there are acceptions. The best thing you can do is go to a very good LBS. They will fit you to a frame and let you check some stuff out even if you don't ultimately decide to buy there.

I ride a 23" moab 2 that has a 25inch top tube and a 7.5 inch head tube with a 80mm travel fork on it. Schwinn actually only makes the 23" in a moab 3 now according to their catalog, although you may want to check this out with a dealer. A moab 1 is around 1k and is a very nice all around bike. If you could get them to build you a moab 3 with all moab 1 components it would be perfect. I've heard other people say that Giant makes some frames tailored to bigger riders as well.

hope that helps,

arch
