weight of a Racer Xjimmy

What is the weight of a Racer X with sy a Duke Race & XT components &
XTR hubs/517 rims. Can it get to <24 lbs or is it around 25-26? I am looking at a new bike but don't want it to weigh more than my HT (24.5lbs). THX

If your HT weights 24.5 lbs, you will not notice the weight increase when riding a Racer X at 25/26. My guess is it will not be possible to build the X to under 24lbs with the basic parts info you provided.

My X build is made up of some decent light weight components w/ discs (Formula B4's, which weight slightly over V-brakes) and althought not weighted yet, guessing the weight will be around 24.5 to 25. (hoping on the lighter side)

With the component you list I would guess it will be in 25-26lbs range. My X was built with some light component (Hugi 240, Avid Mag, Speedneedle, SID race ETC.) is around 22.5lbs. It can be lighter than your HT but you might need to spend a little more and also if you are a heavy rider you might not want to go that light.

Howdy, don't get overly concerned with the weight thing in your switch to full suspension. I'm not suggesting that weight doesn't matter, but it is NOT the only factor. I recently went to a FS bike and although I've gained over 3 lbs. I find my new bike climbs as well as my hard-tail!

Have fun with the Racer X - nice bike!

I would say 25 give or take
tires can change the weight of the bike by 1/2 to a pound easily...
so it really depends on parts pick...

You have probably read the reviews on the bike already so I won't go on and on about how great it is....
and I won't talk about how the bike will outclimb your ht and you will be faster overall either :)

I ask b/c I see some poeple are able to get their RX to 23-24 lbs. I assume its with some pretty light parts & like a SID SL. I am sure that people like the RX & I'm sure its a great bike, & the lady who won the Leadville 100 2 weeks ago rode one, but on those long 5 mile climbs in Crested Butte or anywhere else in CO, where I live, I'd like as little weight as possible. My buddies all seem to ride more than me & I'm always trying to keep up with them on the uphills. It's hard to justify that much $$ on a 25 lb bike. My 1994 bontrager weighs less. So, I am still undecided...

well, I used to race ultralight HTs, ti, steel and al
I guarantee that I am a LOT faster on a good fs bike and the fastest on a Racerx...
This almost gets into the HT vs FS debate which I think is pretty much over with and with a good light efficient FS coming out on top every time
the ONLY place I can see the benefit of a HT is if it is REALLY smooth hardpack
the increased traction and control and signifigantly reduced fatigue you have on a good fs are "worth" the extra weight

look at it this way:
a bike is just a frame and parts
so, if a bike is 25lbs and the frame is 5, then there are 20lbs of parts to deal with...

Everyone that has bought one from me who came off a ht ALL say they are faster on the X, hands down

Charles
I can vouch for that.....KMan

I came off a 3.2 lb (frame) Giant XTC frame (cant get much lighter) and hands down the Racer X is faster than a HT on all conditions but the road (still then a faster "rider" can out sprint without a FS holding you back much). According to your last remarks and concerns, the X will put you up the hill faster than you HT even if it weights a pound or 2 more. If your buddies are still beating you it just probably yoour fitness level & not the bike (no jab intended). If the X is in your price range it definately is a top 3 bike depending on what specifically you are looking for

Jimmy I own both a RacerX and a Steelman hardtail. What I can tell ya is that I'm faster on the RacerX given that I live on the eastcoast of nothing but rocks, roots, sand, mud, very steep technical climbs you get the picture. I can also tell ya that you need to start riding more often to be able to keep up with your buddies. Though the Racerx will make you faster in certain sections of trails over a hardtail I don't think anything can beat rigid on long smooth climbs. You really need to work on your motor somemore to see any kind of improvement. Plus the Racerx isn't a bike for a rider with no lungs. I'm not saying the X is a slow bike(extremely fast btw) but the RacerX is at its best when pushed to its limits, which I feel very few will ever experience.

Just keep your wheelset on the light side and you won't even notice the 2pound difference out on the trail. Goodluck with your decision.

How much do you weigh?

do you find the SL flexy?

Actually not too bad. Its obviously not a headshock but the flexing did not seem too bad. Plus the ride quality is pretty good. Last fork I rode alot was the late unlamented 2000 Marz Z-1 Z-Fly (aka 85mm of stiction). I tend to run the fork full soft on the climb it control. Fork has taken a beating so far- no problems yet.

I weigh 192, so not a light weight, but tend to be a careful rider. I ride lots of single track, rocks, roots, switchbacks, ect. Ride in Virginia.
